Delivery man dropped my hard disk...

I ordered a 750gig hard disk from scan - cost me a fortune. (Well a bit under £200).

Its working at the moment in my PC so nothing to worry about, but theres something in the back of my mind I want to get rid of...

When the stupid gorilla man from the delivery company arrived, he handed me the clipboard to sign, and as I was signing my name, he dropped the parcel on my floor. He didn't do it rudely or anything.. and he didn't drop it on its side, edge, or corner or anything like that either. He dropped it perfectly flat in an "im a carefree chap I am" kind of way. And its also as though he has delivered so many packages, that he has mastered the art of dropping a box perfectly flat...

So anyway, it didn't make a big bang or anything, and it didn't damage the box or anything either. But heres the thing... He dropped my fricken £200 quid disk about 4 feet onto the ground! Almost ANY other product and I wouldn't care at all. A stick of RAM? So what.. it weights about 1 gram, is wrapped in foam, and has no moving parts anyway... But a hard disk? They are meant to be super sensitive to bangs.. and this one is 750 gig and did I mention it cost me just under 200 quids?

Anyway, it works, so thats good, and I ran a drive test on it and that came back with no errors. But in the back of my mind is two things:

1) It could just die any day now when I try to copy something big onto it or something, or if it died in a few months... Scan may not replace it and probably wouldn't believe me that their delivery guy dropped it a few months earlier.

2) Should I email the deliver company and complain about the guy? It won't do anything for me, but he might do that again with someones... something.. and break it. Part of me says, "you could lose the guy his job you meany", and part of me says, "you should have knocked his teeth out". The latter wasn't really an option though unfortunately seeing as he a) knows where I live, and b) was a big bugger, and c) I am about as tough as this guy =


Anyway, please put my mind at ease if you can. Am I obsessing? Has the bone head shortened the life of my srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy new hard disk? If its working ok now, does that mean it suffered no damage?

Nothing really to complain about The box was probably shoved and knocked around alot before you saw it anyhow.

If it works then theres nothing really to complain about is there? The guy isn't gonna get disciplined and Scan wont care, if its working then its a non-issue.

Obsessing - all couriers drop-test your packages many, many times before they reach you. Just because it happened in front of you don't think it didn't happen back at the depot anyway.

Is it a seagate? 5 year warranty?

just imagine what happened to your boxes while at the depot, my mate used to work for a large royal mail depot and they would play american football with them

hehe, the knocks and bangs and kicked around the floor at the depot crossed my mind too. Although I did wonder if perhaps nowdays, being 2007 and all... that delivery companies may be careful with someone elses purchase. But I suppose thats still not the case.

So thanks everyone, thats a relief that you all think its ok I can rest now, and get backing up my stuff.

Wow is that true? Isnt 350G like.. ENORMOUS? Scan could have just fired it out of a howitzer at my house

350G is like accelerating to 1/4th the speed of light within 10 seconds.

nothing to worry about if its working, plus i dont know how it was packaged but my hard disks i bought last year came in a box with that foam with those kinda prongs, you know the things that stick up between eggs in an egg box to keep em in place, well there was one on top and one below. so if yours was packed like that i wouldnt worry.

I bet the e-mail for 'Have you any Complaints/Comments is unmonitored anyway, if you want to complain you should attempt to speak with someone in person , although i wouldn't recommend it, depends how much you enjoy listening to greensleaves really. Also, anyone that does eventually hear your complaint won't be paid enough to care, and will be too busy picking his/her nose.

Besides, i think dropping your parcel from say chest height is the least of your concerns, they were probably playing rugby with it back at the depot, not to mention the time it spent being flung back and forth in the delivery van as he hurtles down those county roads at 80mph.

It's OK, it's a 7200.10, so it'll die within those few months anyway.

If it's OK at the moment, then there's been no damage. It's not going to cause any problems in the future. If things do go dodgy it won't be because of the drop.
