Until the nforce 3 chipset comes out and until microsoft release 64bit operating systems the a64 is pretty useless.

Another vote for the p4 here

whys it useless? in pretty much everything an athlon 64 (xp3000) can whoop the ass off a 3.2 ghz pentium 3, it would annihilate a 2.4 with ease

A P4 3ghz beats the AMD 64 3200 in almost everybenchmark so its going to eat a AMD 64 3000 alive.

THe price of the AMD 64 is also against it. You could get a p4 rig and overclock it and still have a lot of money left over compared to if you just went for an AMD 64

Srz but thats slightly wrong ... the 3000A64 is BETTER than the 3200A64 as they've improved there running, only diff pritty much is less cache!

3000A64 is £170, Equiv 3.0C (which in game performance is still less) is £220

... performance might be safe, but your bank balance won't look so good.

At this stage I'd go with a nice barton and save your money for next gen A64 (FX non-ECC)

Arent AMD gonna change all the sockets, so you wont be able to upgrade at all.

I would wait for another few months yet, untill HL2, D3, 64 bit windows, and the new chipsets.

Also price may have down by then

You need to do a bit more reading before you say stuff like that NF3 is out and has been out for quite some time.

    You like slow PC's then?

Look at the speed & cooling required from a P4C to match A64 powa
