boys and girls i will come into a small amount of cash soon that i am going to spend on a pc. I will have the money in about 2-4weeks tops and was wondering what you could spec me for max of £1100 more towards 1k if possible. i will do quite a bit of gaming. for the case i was thinking antec 900 but im not really sure bought the rest. Im also not that confident with putting it together so if it comes to it and i dont, do you know any estores where i could buy it cheap and theyll put it together for me. please dont anyone say dell i may just kill myself...EXTORTION springs to mind. thanx in advance.

Prices change so much, its best to wait until you actually have the cash. What might be a bargain today, could be outdone by something better next week.

Agreed, keep looking at the bargain section and buy youself a copy of custompc, read online reviews etc

Also its easy building your own, easier than ikea furniture tbh

It's not hard just take your time..and if you have an old one you can take apart and put back together again thats a good start.

Theres loads of people who build them but obviously it does cost you a bit more.

Mesh, Gladiator and Scan are the first that come to mind and they all build with consumer parts.

You would be looking at this kind of spec..

Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5B
2GB pc5400 or pc6400 RAM
8800GTS 320mb/640mb (depending on your resolution)

using various deals floating around and using a basic p5b that would cost you less that £450.

Case and Psu will be about £150 (antec 900 and corsair 520w)
Hard Drives and optical Between £100 and £150 but you could spend a lot more.

So you could be looking at as little as £700 for that lot certainly under £1000

the top end stuff is constantly changing, and after you buy the best, the best is no longer the best and you get a bad feeling of wasting your money (coming from experience) but it's also a nice feeling you have some of the best hardware around.

Whatever you decide to do, just steer away from the X range of core2 processors, as they are clearly not worth thier price.

To be honest, building yourself isn't always cheaper, especially not if you go with mass market companies like Dell or MESH (dear god though, not MESH!!!), what system building does is gives you totally free choice on what components go into your rig, you can litterally have the best of everything with careful research.

It is cheaper because you get better quality components for the same price usually(or less). The ability to upgrade easily too, dell try their hardest to not let u upgrade yourself.

Are you after a whole Rig or just the base unit. If it's the whole rig then it's well worth spending a good amount of money on the display and KB+M, I build myself a cheap rig and by far the best part of it is the Logitch LX710 wireless KB+M set - not top of the range but they really make a difference when actually using your computer. For screens either 1 big one if you mainly game, or 2 smaller ones if you plan to work/program/video edit/etc - dual screen is very producting and 2x19" widescreens aren't that expensive.

Building yourself can get you good deals if you aren't in a rush. Scan today only, google checkout at ebuyer (lots of £30 orders for £20), etc can really bring the price of a build down.

Dell are good actually - can be good value for money and they're pretty good for upgrading the most common parts (GPU, RAM, CPU).

CCL allow you to pick components and then they'll built it for a flat fee. Mesh have a large choice in component selection too.

If it's just a base unit you might be able to squeeze an Alienware in for your money.. they are monster PCs and you'll love it

i was looking for the whole package, but i dont think ill go with dual display as will be mainly gaming. ive had a look at alienware, andthey seem to charge some serious cash for stuff that isnt priced that high. i think i will build it myself and buy the parts using the things you said, scan today only and google checkout etc. thanx for the help and ill be back on soon with a possible spec for you guys to change and improve no doubt. thanx again
