Post you Budget Rigs (or ideas for)

I'm trying to decide on a budget gaming rig that could play recent games in the higher graphics settings with decent FPS. In particular, LOTRO in 'Very High'.

With my experience I'd rather build from a barebones and not have to follow advice like for the Saphire X1950 I've seen alot that suggests I'd have to do some custom cooling etc I think with my budget I can't do the newer shuttles like the SD39P2...maybe more like the price of an Asus T3. Don't mind if its AMD/Intel based and I guess I need something around an E6400. 2 gig of RAM seems a must now.

I'd be interested on opinions between a WD Raptor or using 2 SATA drives on RAID when I only need HD space for games.

So anyway, every time I get near to deciding I hear that this component might not fit in this barebone or that the PSU isn't powerful enough and so on. So if you have a budget tried-and-tested rig and want to share the specs that would be great.

    tnx in advance peeps.

Raptors.. What do you want a gaming rig or a budget gaming rig?

Raptors and Raid 0 will help with loading times etc.. but you wont get a noticable difference in game I don't think.

E6420 isn't a bad over clocker but you can find e6600's for about £10 more now.

something like a gigabite ds3, asus p5b for the motherboard keeps it cheap and overclock well.

The x1950 pro is great for a budget gaming pc.. Ebuyer had them for about £75 this weekend I don't know whether they're still that cheap though.

P.S you're in the wrong section unless you you want a little budget gaming pc.

-Apeavia (or whatever they're called now - used to be Aspire) X Q-pack - case + 420W PSU
    -x1950Pro
    -Asrock 945 Conroe DVI
    -2gb Corsair value select DDR2 677
    -E6320 core 2 duo

If you just need hdd for games then you don't need a raptor or RAID. Get something cheap like the Samsung 160

Should be a great rig, and cost peanuts.

Have used one of the Aspire X Q-Pack cases, and whilst it looked huge next to a Shuttle it was a damned fast machine for the price.
