building my first PC

This time I will build it miself.
And I want it quiet.

Antec P180.
Abit AB9 QuadGT or Asus P5B Deluxe.
PSU Corsair 620 or Seasonic S12 Energy Plus SS-650HT.
Core duo2 E6600.
Coolermaster HyperTX.
2G PC-6400 OCZ Platinum.
Innovision 3D 8800GTS 320MB.
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum Ex.
150GB Western Digital Raptor.
400GB Seagate Barracuda SATA II.
Samsung SH-S183A Black DVD +/-R/RW

My first choice for motherboard is the Abit AB9 QuadGT, because I really like what I read about "µGuru Tech". I would like to control the fans for minimun noice. I have a good feeling with this card, but also the Asus P5B Deluxe looks really interesting.
Wich one do you think is better for video editing?
Will I have to many problems with the Corsair 620 and the Antec p180?
I read that the cables are litle bit small.
Will be better the Seasonic S12 Energy Plus SS-650HT?
Is the Coolermaster HyperTX. a good silence fan?

and finally, do you think that I will have any other problem or incompativility?
I would like to heard your sugestions and recomendsations.

thanks

I read in http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1995
that the Seasonic S12 Energy Plus SS-650HT is modular, but I cant find any shop that says the same. Is it modular or not? If its not modular the choice will be between the MSeasonic M12 Modular 600W Silent and the Corsair 620.

I will buy the components principaly in ebuyer, and also in microdirect. I read good and bad things about, but it seams ok.

If you want quiet, a Raptor is not the best choice.

Ups I made 2 threads by mistake...

I know that the reptor is not the best choice for silence, but I want it fast too.
If it is too noicy I will put some foam on it.

If you really want the speed, you can get this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=533399

Its meant to really help the noise of it.

Although, personally I'd skip the raptor and get an 8800GTX instead. Or save up a bit longer and got both. GTX is just so fast.

the Enclosure looks really good...

I thoght about the GTS because I'm saving to buy in 1 year the Nvidia Quadro 1500 or 4500, depends on my savings and on Ebay, because I found really good prices there, for new ones.

Yeah the enclosure is supposed to be very good. Although it does increase the temperature of the disks by a few degrees. But not enough to worry about.

As for the graphics card, you mention the Quadro? Do you do some kind of art work on your PC? I just assumed you wanted to play games, but if you do 3d modelling or something, then your plan might make more sense than buying a GTX.

I'm using photoshop, Premier Pro and I will learn this summer how to use AfterEffects. Now I have a FX5600 256mb and a P4 2.8HT and it works ok for editing.
I thought that there is no point to buy a expensive grafic card, when I will be changing it in one year. An the raptor is something I will be continue using for years.
If I buy a good Acoustic Material Kit for the case and I use it also in the raptor, do you think it will help?

If you're only doing photoshop and premier the Quadro will be a complete waste of money. Only very expensive CAD programs leverage Quadro/FireGL features. Even the likes of 3DS Max works on raw 'gamer' cards these days, which frankly, whoop workstation cards in performance.

Bad idea imo, this will increase the temp of the hd too much... You are better off with an enclosure, at least they try to make enclosures dissipate the heat a bit

that is no t what I've been reading in the videoedition pages.

I use Fx5600 with maya 4.0, photoshop, and premier and it is ok. I know that gaming grafic cards are good for editing and 3d.
But they are made for games and most of the programation of this cards is just for that. the quadro are made to develope grafics. Is not only about speed and raw power as the gaming ones, it is about the programation, and special features that makes quadro works better for developement.

It looks that I will spend some more £ in the enclosure.

Honestly, the only real difference is the OpenGL support is tweaked for workstation apps, the GPU, opengl/directx support is nearly identical, all you're really paying double for is more solid, desktop orintated drivers. I don't think it's worth it tbh. Better off getting a 8800 Ultra for multi-OS support (ATi's stuff is rubbish on *NIX). All the hardware on that site is horrendously overpriced, they'd have a hard time convincing people to part with $1,000 for a 8800 when people can buy them on newegg for half the price.

It's your money at the end of the day, I just think the money would be better spent on a Q6600, Asus P5K Deluxe Motherboard, and PC2-8500ram, at least video/photoshop/3d stuff would get an actual benifit from the extra cores of the CPU and faster memory I/O.

Yeah I agree. I dont think those applications would really make good use out of a Quadro. The 8800s should be good enough for that. Especially the likes of photoshop.

As for the enclosure, they aren't TOO expensive, so it would be worth having. Will keep your raptor night a quiet and won't increase the temperature of the other components.

It Is a litle bit confusing. Sometimes I think that Quadro are just really expensive because the profesional people will buy them and also fore their stability. Also I read in other magazines that Quadro are recomended. For the momment I will not buy any Quadro. If I need it next year, I will buy it. But I will never buy it in Videoguys, I just use their information. Fot these summer I dont want to espend more than 1100£.

Anyway, thanks. I will think about the GTX..., and I will check the Asus.
