shuttle sd37p2
8800 gts 320mb
2gb corsair value select ram (667mhz)
e6600 c2d
maxtor hard drive (250gb)
vista ultimate

my questions are....

will the ram slow my system down because they are at 667mhz and not 800mhz?

is the e6600 worth the £65 extra over the e4300?

is the maxtor worth replacing? heard they have a bad rep?

is vista ultimate worth the £60 over vista premium?

is the 8800 gts 320mb worth the £90 over a x1950pro?


i've not built this yet but i'm feeling i may change a few things

any advise you can give me guys?

If you've bought it, I think it might be too late.

Ultimate isn't worth the extra £60, unless you are going to use the stuff.

And the 8800GTS is ace,

And the e6600 is good.

Keep vista, theres nothing wrong with it, you've bought ultimate stick with the decision, you might aswell use it.

The ram shouldn't slow you down. Are you planning on overclocking the e6600?

The hard drive will be fine until it fails. You don't know when It'll fail tho, it might last decades.

Not with an Intel based computer. With AMD, RAM speed makes more of a difference. But with an Intel its only going to be the difference of a few fps in games. The higher ram is mainly to give you more room to overclock, so if you aren't bothered about overclocking really high, then you should be fine.

Yeah, the E6600 is great. Well worth it.

Only if you haven't ordered them yet. All Maxtor disks I've had, run pretty hot Some people say they are really unreliable too, although the few that I've owned have lasted for a decade with no problems at all - apart from being hot. They where quiet tho (even although they are 7200rpm disks). But if you can change your order, or if you haven't got them yet, then it would be better to go for Seagate, Western Digi, or Samsung. Or basically anything besides Maxtor. But if you have them already, don't worry. Just make sure you back up any important data - which you should do no matter what hard disk you have.

Yes And the 8800GTX is worth the extra £90-£100 or so too, over the GTS. Although you have to draw the line at whatever your budget is, and the 8800GTS is a great place to draw the line, because its a fast card.

i might sell vista all together ... might just stick with my xp for now, no real point in it till the dx10 games come out

You should still be able to overclock just fine. Just probably not to 999 zillion ghz

Theres people here though who are overclock masters and they will help.

As for Vista, I'd keep it if I was you. You would probably lose a bit of money re-selling it, and like you said, its going to be worth having eventually - when DX10 games come out. So atleast then you will have the best version of it, all ready to install So I'd keep it if I was you, but its up to you. XP still rocks if you wanted to stick with that. Although I'd use Vista if I had it.

By the time you have sold ultimate, you probably won't save buying home premium, just keep ultimate.

hmm, I'd keep Ultimate personally.

Ultimate has all the added benifits of the Business version, more refined security mechanisms included, better off to keep it.
