I would suggest getting 4GB of ram. Look in the bargains forum, 4GB can be had for less than £100.

Yeah but its gonna be running xp 32 bit so not all that would be addressable. Possible upgrade in furture when Vista becomes more useable

My thoughts are..check out the today only on scan as you can get both the cpu and gfx card (xfx) cheaper today ..and probably most days

What case are you using?

The best PSU around that power is generally considered to be the corsair 520w modular. I'm sure the silverstone is good quality though.

Oh, but how about having 2GB for half that price instead? and going for the 640MB 8800gts with the saved money (which you will need for high resolution gaming). Or if don't need high resolution graphics, use saving to get better cpu cooler or bigger hard disks

Aye alot of ram around atm thats cheap just like crucial as it tends to be stable regardless of what you put it in.

the 640MB GTS would be overkill as max res it'll play it is 1280*1024 but I had thought about it.

Aye would go for better cooler than stock one but I'm already under budget so yeah good idea. Larger hdd's are option too. Had thought about a 74 GB raptor for OS and a 500 GB for storage but it was pushing price a little but its an option for when he is ready to buy as prices might have fluctuated the right way

An 8800GTX no use?

If perhaps he wanted to upgrade the monitor sometime, the 8800GTX would be well worth having. I wouldn't mention it if it wasn't for the fact you seem to be below his budget.

Also, not sure how much RAM you where planning on, but I saw people mentioning RAM. If he is a gamer, it has to have 2gig nowdays. Not 100% essential but... its getting there. There are dozens of games now that run like crap with 1gig, but run much better with 2gig.

Other than that, it looks really nice.

I would higly reccomend this hard drive, ever group test in magazines and online this hard drive has always come out tops. I had a quick flick through PCW at WhSmith as they had a group review of something daft like 500 hard drives and this was the one they reccommened as it is cheap, cool, fast and has a high capacity for its price.

Obviously these are not gonna beat the raptors but they are pretty close speed wise beating them in 3 out of 8 tests in CustomPC and a lot less noisy.

Well he just got 2 Gig of Corsair XMS PC5400 from ebuyer for 36 quid +P&P through google checkout.

PC5400 would get you to 3GHz on a 6600, thats a reasonable overclock and without better cooling you wont get much more.

On either, both have a 9x multiplier.

I'd personally do it with an E4300 though, both are going to clock the same and one costs significantly less
