    3000 athlon 64 overclock help

    Hi ive been trying to overclock my cpu with using alot of diffrent guides on the net including overclockers tweaktown etc but i would just like your opinion on what i have done and if it is ok.

    first my rig:
    i have a venice 3000 at 1.8ghz stock fan an asrock 939dual sata2, 1gb ram corsiar value dual channel, 8600gt msi oc, 400W SILVERPOWER SP-400P1B PSU, and an old sblive value cuz onboard realtek is just awful..

    What i have changed in the bios:
    cpu freq - 270 (280 didnt boot and i didnt care for 275 much)
    pcie freq - 105
    processor multiplier - 9x
    v1.45
    memory clock - 166, (my ram is 400 so dunno if i should go up to 200?)
    memory flexability compatability - enabled
    cpu nb - sb 800/16bit on both, (would it be better to go 1000 or would that ruin the overclock?)
    agp aperture size 256mb

    my boot up shows 2.44ghz and my computer properties shows 2.43ghz

    i have run both prime 95 and occt occt oon test and torture prime 95 for 12 hours with no errors but my cpu temp is at 51 max and 50 average with motherboard monitor
    and mobo stays at 32

    Seems good and temps are fine but three points:

    - Set your PCI-E Freq back to 100.
    - Set your HT Multiplier to x3.
    - With it set as it is you're actually overclocking your memory to 220MHz so run MemTest.

    Temperature 51 max looked fine to me, consider you used a stock heatsink.

    AGP Aperture size does not matter since you're using PCIe display, so you may as well set it lower.

    NB-SB should stay at 800, 1000 would be quite a huge overclock, won't make your system any faster but cause extra instability.

    The Asrock board have a ceiliing of about 275~290 from what i tried (A 3000+ that could go 305, and a O146 that could go 285, both maxed around 275) and I doubt you can go any higher on that board.

    You did a fine job there, nothing to worry about.

    If you really want to try, push down the memory to rule out memory problem (unlikely to be a problem though)

    The memory is CPU clock dependent, the 166Mhz is just AN APPROXIMATION. The ram will in fact run at DDR406 (203Mhz) at that clock speed.
    5Mhz overclock on PCIe is not going to do any harm, back then PCI bus could be easily overclocked 15% without any effect.

    He had his HT multiplier fine, (4x270 is only 1080, most if not all Venice will take 1200 fine)

    thanks for the tips, so i shall leave my processor multi as x9and not x3? (i take it thats what HT multi is what does HT stand for anyways.. hypertransport, hyperthread?) as that is stock and it seems stable but i will still run memtest did u take a look at my cpu-z readings i posted it as i am pretty new to this so i didnt get the numbers wrong in my post also what does memory hole do there is an option to enable it, and should i leave the latencys as auto? and the memory clock at 166?

    the reason i set pcie to 5 was most guides said set it to 7 and some had it at 9 also when u use sync and move the cpu freq up it moves the pcie up pretty high so i thought 5 is a safe bet even tho my gfx card is overcocked already, is there anyway i can read the temps on my gfx card?

    also what shall i do with the dram, normal high or auto?

    The CPU-Z link seems broken.

    The HT multiplier has nothing to do with the CPU multiplier, multiply your FSB (270 in this case) by it to get your HT Frequency. This should be kept below 1000 or it can cause stability issues, having it higher has no performance gain anyway so it's always better to be on the safe side. I was working with 270 x 3 = 810 but as arthurleung said 270 x 4 = 1080 so you're not much over.

    I got the memory at 220MHz from using a calculator, it's always been accurate for me in the past:

    Post a screenshot of the 'Memory' tab in CPU-Z.

    The PCI-E freq basically overclocks your graphics card from the BIOS so as you're overclocking it already I'd set back to the 100MHz stock. Everest Home Edition should display GFX temps.

    As for DRAM voltage, go with 2.6v (2.5v is stock if I remember correctly).

    so i take it in my bios cpu nb link speed and nb to sb link speed is what ur refering to when u say keep it below 1000? although there is no option to take it over 1000 and its set to 800 now as recommended if thats right?

    also i ran 3dmark and my gfx fps was around 25 with low dips at 10 and my cpu was 0fps, have i done something wrong? sorry like i said im new to this

    p.s. gfx idle temp is 43 at 105 freq its msi oc'd i havent changed it via software

    also i take it dram v is 2.6 = high? so turn it to high right?

    Ah well you're right, my calculation was slightly wrong Although there is a DFI divider (3/4 or 150Mh ) which I used a lot.

    2430/11 -> DDR440
    2430/12 -> DDR404

    I remember there are a lot of cheap DDR400 modules that doesn't work at 2.5V and need 2.6V to run stock speed. I think the Asrock board goes up to 2.7V

    I'll let someone more qualified give you advice on the ASRock BIOS as I've never used one.

    CPU-Z link it still broken and post #6 shows red crosses where the images should be.

    reposted images on page 6 should be showing now but ive set my bios back to defualt for the time being till i can figure out whats what or someone can point me in the right direction, i was only overclocking to get more performance out of f.e.a.r which runs sluggish at medium settings
    (and strangely dips from 65-10 fps at times)

    it did help me but i am still unsure of what to change

    one question tho, wouldnt the memory clock be faster at 400 and not 333? defualt sets it to auto which is 333mhz

    ok i changed to those values but just a few points with auto on tras it gives me 7t which im guessing is better than 8t? and also i read that higest vdim you can get stantard is 2.7v (high). im guessing that is dram v and auto is 2.5 ? would it be better to go high?

    The difference between TRAS at 7 and 8 is VERY minimum, I only said 8 cos that's what Corsair rate those sticks at.

    As for screenshots not working, try uploading to ImageShack.

    Looks good though, give SP2004 a whirl.
