80mm Fans - Urgent Advice Please

I'm looking to get some 80mm fans from Scan to mod a PSU.

May need a 92mm fan as well.

    Recommendations please.

Please let me know if you own the fans.

    Thank you.

can you mod psu fans? surely it'd invalidate the warranty and you could electricute yourself?!

    I was thinking of getting a 80mm 2000 one as I have 1000 120mm ones.

    Thanks.

Bought it second hand (Noisetaker 4695) and modded it a few times (wasn't too sure about warranty as I didn't have an invoice). Even had it running in the lower chamber of a P180 with fans removed from the PSU - lower chamber 120mm was cooling it but now moved to Eclipse case.

Alhamdulillah (Thank God) no problems as yet

Another vote for the 80mm Sharkoon 2000, they push a good amount of air and are VERY quiet.

I bought an 80mm Vantex Tornado. It's ideal for people without ears, but at 55 decibels it's waaaaaay too loud. Shifts a lot of air though. I'm pretty sure if i held it at the right angle i could put the sun out.

The Vantec Stealth (anything but) weren't far behind the Tornado in terms of noise

In the end I got one each of the following

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=43180 - Coolermaster Fan with Blue LED

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=290840 - Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000

The Coolermaster doesn't suffer from any bearing noise whereas the Sharkoon does . I expected the Sharkoon to be better but it isn't.

The Sharkoon 1000 80mm I have is very quiet however.

That'd be because it doesn't move air :/

Coolermaster do make good 80mm fans though

The Sharkoon shifts enough air for the task I've set it

Cut a hole in a dead PCI card (so air could be fed to the fan) and stuck the Sharkoon on it with UHU Whitetack. This PCI card sits under a fanless graphics card.

I think an 80mm Sharkoon 1000 in a PSU would cause a fire...

No it wouldn't, I tried it

TBH, it was in a psu that was sitting in the lower chamber of a P180 and the lower chamber 120mm fan was cooling the Noisetaker 480 more than the Sharkoon.

They'd do fine in server boxes that are locked away in machine rooms. Not pleasent for aural consuption in the home.
