It should run in a 4x slot, but will have a reduced bandwidth due to the fact that it is an 8x card. However, he will probably also need a new power supply as the one supplied with a Geforce 2 will have nowhere near enough power to supply an x1950.
Yes it should work in at AGP x4 I've tried with a Nvidia 6200 8x at 4x and it worked.
Not for me to say, but isn't an x1950 overkill in a system with a 4x AGP slot? Might be better to look at a 6600 or similar?
at 4X the card might be a bit limited though, might be better off with a slightly less powerful card like a 7600gt. Also should check his psu if it is powerful enough to run the card.
Ya well that is what I thought, but he has a dell 4300 (2002) so from what I have herd you cant upgrade the psu.
I might just persuade him to buy/make a whole new comp, that would be for the best (he is a gamer )
I'd get a cheap NVidia or similar (spend under £50). If he was happy with the performance before, no point going crazy. Or, as you suggest, replace the whole thing!
Heh well that card is surprisingly good, he got 100fps+, 800x600 in cod2. I will seriously recommend he just gets a whole new computer.
But anyway the plat 7600gt seems to be the best choice.
yep running in DX7 of course and by overclocking the GPU by 35mhz, and also I think this dell was top spec in its day.
