Exclamation PC wont boot after installing new cpu

    hey,

just installed my new barton 2500+ in my msi k7n2g ilsr but when i turned the pc on it would turn itself off after a few seconds.

Try putting my old cpu in, but my mobo now says there is a fault with my ram. Tried it in different slots and also ram from other pc's, but it still wont boot. The ram works fine in the other pc's

have cleared the bios and checked all jumpers etc

any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

nForce2 IGP should be cool (chipset is most important). Be sure to disable any mention of auto-shut down by temp and be sure to have the latest BIOS as these are very likely culprits. Did you set BIOS back to defaults and was your previous CPU o/c'ed? You'd also want to check your HSF is up to the task, it should be as 1.8ghz of XP2500+ isn't hot.

I'd stick your old CPU back in, update the BIOS, reset to defaults, disable autoshutoff type features (but be careful and re-enable when all's cool) then try your new CPU in. Could be a mobo problem esp if all RAM is showing up bad (rem to check the speed it's running at).

Just rem that too much of that stuff is worse than none. The lightest layer is all that's needed as you simply want to fill any miniscule airpockets or scratches as you still want the heat to transfer to your HS not the compound itself.
