    New PC building

I am building a new pc and I am going to buy the components very soon off SCAN. I have done lots of research but I am unsure still of some choices.

    CPU-e6600
    GPU-XFX 8800 GTS 320Mb
    PSU-650W Enermax Infiniti EIN650AWT

The things I am unsure of are the motherboard (maybe Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI) and the RAM (maybe 2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS). All together must be around £670 for these 5 components together. Also is the PSU ok for this system?

      • Motherboard:
      • MSI P45 Platinum
      • CPU:
      • Intel E7200 @ 3.5GHz

      • Storage:
      • 2 x Samsung Spinpoint 500GB
      • Graphics card(s):
      • 2 x ATI HD4850
      • PSU:
      • 750W Silverstone Zeus

That psu will be more than enough, overkill even. The corsair ones would easily be enough and cheaper.
The new asus P5K boards might be a good choice, all reports say they are very good. Any 2GB 800MHz ram will do, it is so cheap these days.

As said the psu would be fine, but this Corsair will also fit the bill - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=446787 - and at £97.51, it's £13.99 cheaper (ok it's 620w not 650w).

Do you see yourself using a 2nd gpu in sli, if not, it's a waste of money going for the sli version. I've done this, and never used the 2nd slot yet, the intention is there, but by the time I start thinking about adding another card, it works out faster (and often cheaper) to buy the newer cards just releases.

Yes, the P5K deluxe wifi has a built in wireless card.

Its really too early to recommend the P5K yet, but so far, it has been a great performer, and almost on a par with the P5B deluxe wifi.

if you want a pretty sure bet, go for the P5B deluxe wifi, or if you fancy a potentially better board, with maybe a few quirks that will need ironing out, the P5K is the way to go.

Avoid the 680i boards, they are horribly problematic.

the GeIL Ultra 2x1GB packs are going for about £60 atm and are meant to clock really well.

I just went with the P5K Deluxe for a very similar build, mostly because of the potential for increased performance. Waiting the man from citylink now

However, as clunk said, if stability and quirk-free operation is what you're after, then the P5B seems to be your best bet.

I had a fairly good, trouble-free time with the Gigabyte 965p-DQ6> I liked the package, but it seems pricey for what it is. I ended up RMA'ing the thing, because I got lumped with a Rev1 board, then getting the Asus P5K instead. People seem to favor the 965p-DS3 variant, which has a slightly different feature set.

Should I go for the ddr2 motherboard or the p5k that accepts ddr2 and ddr3 so that it my be better to use in the future?

The p5k3 that supports ddr3 is available from scan for about £425 inc 2gb of ddr3. Thats a good enough reason to go for the ddr2 version

Yes it still supports DDR2 ram. "The chipset officially supports the memory frequency up to DDR2 800MHz. Tuned by ASUS Super Memspeed Technology, this motherboard natively supports up to DDR2 1066MHz"
