Twin sets of Dual Channel ram

I know this is a long shot and I know it probably doesn't work, but if it did and I don't find out... then my loss.

But can 2 sets of my ram (exact same sets to make 4 modules of the same ram) still work in dual channel mode?

I haven't bought the other set of modules I'm just using 2GB right now but if I can get 4GB and still have dual channel mode, that would be awesome.

    Thanks.

4x1GB will work in dual channel, they are matching pairs.

2 different matched pairs should work in dual channel.

yes if your motherboard has two dual channel rails as it wouldn't run as 4x1gb in dual channel it would run 2x1gb+2x1gb

Search they forum for more info - they dont have to be matched. Just means you might get less problems.

    Okay, thanks people.

    I have one last question.

Instead of me buying more shrivelling old memory for this old 939 motherboard. I have decided to get C2D E6700 and 2GB Corsair TwinX 4-4-4-12.

The motherboard I will be using is Abit IN9 32X-MAX WiFi NF680i SLI.

Can this motherboard use 2 sets of DDR 2? Or shall I buy the 2 x 2GB set?

Edit: Scratch that, I'm unsure of which motherboard now. What do you suggest?

Check with who you are getting the memory from

    For example crucial:
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...%2DMAX+Wi%2DFi

the page states the M/B suports 32GB but the page also states:

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500,DDR2 PC2-8000 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
If you are running a 32bit OS you will be unable to use all 4GB you need a 64bit OS for that. If you are going to have 2 x 8800GTS installed on a 32bit O/S check google out - if your video cards have total memory 1.5GB you will only be able to access less than 2.5GB of system ram.

The OS has nothing to do with being able to address up to 4gb (32bit windows can happily do that) - that's a hardware issue, not an OS one.
If the mobo has PAE support, you will be able to use all 4gb. If not, then manwithnoname is correct - you will have less available. Just to make it clear though - this is a hardware restriction, not a OS one
