I think companies exist who do this professionally, otherwise there is software that can do it for u too.
PM sent
i thought there was but im in such a panic atm i dont know where to look.
any links or company names would be great
edit: cheers gonzo
dont worry m8, the info i just sent should have everything you need to get the stuff back !
This is why it pays to check, and double check that everything is backed up before formatting :P
I suggest R-Studio (R-Studio.com)
It has 100% recovered ~250 gb of data for me on a couple of seperate (unrelated!) occasions. I merely had to rename 3 folders in total, from a couple of rather large directory structures.
It's $80 for FAT and NTFS, or $50 for just one. You can try the demo out and preview what files it will be able to recover before you invest too
1st off, don't panic, it may be the case that all your data can be restored easily, if you use NTFS, try GetDataBackNTFS, it has helped me restore over 400gb before, and years worth of data. I think there is also a FAT alternative, and maybe even other versions. Link
Good Luck bud.
P.S A full scan will take a long... long time, so get the coffee pot on.
Aye, dont worry. Theres been programs to retrieve stuff like this for over 20 years, so nowdays they must be pretty good :)
In the meantime though, don't do anything crazy like copying anything on to the disk (or formatting it again), etc. Otherwise, you should be fine.
think i will run a back up of my data now
hope the OP gets it sorted!
my dad is sending me some software up as we speak. Thanks a lot for the help guys!
Ok iv tried a few different programs and i have recovered my photos but i lost all the filenames. For this reason i didnt restore my tv programes and music because like i said there is gig upon gig of it & i dont have the time to rename all that stuff and organise it into folders. Before i give up and start using hte drive and i thought i would just check, is there no way of restoring with filenames intact?
What software did you use to restore them? Perhaps some better software would restore the names too?
It did when I once did this - but that was about 10 years ago or more.
Its possible the names are gone forever, but you might be able to get them back with a different software. Otherwise, you could always just recover the TV shows and music and play them and then figure out what names they are and just rename them. If you can't be bothered doing it to every single file, you could maybe just pick the biggest files and do it to those. Or you could recover them anyway, and back them up somewhere incase you where super bored one weekend and felt like doing it then :) Cause this is probably your only chance to get the stuff off that disk.
there is far too much to sit and rename it all.
Iv used Active@ file recovery, recover my files and one other i forget the name of.
Il try some other things & let u know
cheers
Just had a thought, is there any program that can rename my music using the ID tags?? might work out alright
