GPU decisions sli or..................

Basically i want to upgrade my GPU.
The decision is A 1950 pro (or xtx) or 2 8600gts in SLI.
I know that the X1950 is a great card and almost purchased one but a friend stopped me in my tracks,and suggested that i go with the DX10 SLI set up.
Now i am not to sure what to do, as i have not seen to many good reviews on the 8600gts's.
Any advice??

The 8600 isnt really an enthusiast card, get a single 8800gts. The single card setup will be far less hassle and probably give better performance on average. You can pick up the 320mb version for £165 on ebuyer. Consider the 640mb one if u game above 1900x1200 res.

SLI never appealed to me as much as a single GPU. 8800gts i thought about but out of my price range for now, so waiting for more price reductions.

i am not very good with "the best g/c", so i am not sure which is best suited for my system, which is: opty144@2.8
DFI ultra,1gb geil 1 ddr500.
I thought 8800gts would bottleneck my system?? I may be wrong.
I could get both cards ( x1950 pro or8600gts) around £100.

The 8800 might be a bit of an excess compared to the rest of your system. I would go for the x1950 pro or even a 7900GS:

Both the DX9 cards would probably outperform the 8600. Google some reviews and decide for yourself.

Get yourself a single 8800GTS or GTX and be happy.

They will outrun 2x8600's any day of the week. In fact, one 8800GTS/GTX will outrun any other combination of card in SLI.

Good grief! Avoid SLI

A single x1950pro will rock, and is great value for money. I can count the number of games out that take advantage of DX10 on my tails.

When DX10 games are more prevalent at the end of the year or the beginning of next year the second generation DX10 parts will be out and these will most likely offer better performance and lower power comsumption also.They will also be better value for money too!!

Until DX10 games come out we cannot say how well the current DX10 cards will run them!!
