    Prescott and New Chipset??

I've just been looking at Intel's processor roadmap... I know that 'Prescott' is suppose to come out in the 2nd quarter of 2004 and I think it will be launched at 3.4GHz or higher. However, it would appear that there'd also be a new chipset to go with the new release of the P4:
    Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor
    - 3.40 GHz¹ or greater
    - Next Generation Intel® Chipset
    - Intel® 875P Chipset Family...
Basically, while I'm in the market for a new CPU, mobo and RAM (as mentioned in another thread), I'm not about to throw money down the sink... My plan is to wait until the release of 'Prescott' and the new chipset. Hopefully, Intel will follow with the initial release with some lower clockspeed releases (which is not unusual).

Have you guys heard anything regarding the release date of 'Prescott' and the new chipset? What do you think of my plan of action? Do you have any alternative I should consider? Thanks...

new computer stuff always comes out and buying any computer at anytime is 'throwing money down the sink' unless its something that is allready 2+ years old. How good does the prescott perform? how much is it? no one knows, yet... hmmm, i'll be able to give you a good answer to this thread in about 6months...

Well, since Prescott is an extension of the existing P4 with a die shrink to 9 micron. Intel has a good track record when it come to die shrinks and the overclocking potential is huge (like PIII 500e or P4 1.6A). That's why I'm looking into this platform as my next upgrade.
