Worth replacing E6300 with 6600?

I'm currently at 2.8 - is there any point replacing my chip? I'm using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro as my HSF - I'm guessing this wouldn't cope with a 3.4ghz 6600?

I see Scan are offering the chip for £132 now. I don't know what I'd get for my 6300 sale wise.

wait until july 22nd and just go the whole way with a q6600 for £170 or just wait until then for intel price drops sell your chip a week or two before and then buy the new one

Only if you are into vid encoding and the additional cache would come in handy, even then you could get an E6320 for much less than an e6600.
Just keep clocking, you should hit at least 3GHz, possibly upto 3.3GHz, however anything above 3.2GHz might run pretty hot!

Which Bios revision are you using?

BTW, ebuyer are selling the E6600 @ £132.16 with free del, use Google Checkout and that's £122.16 inc P&P!

If you are doing a lot of encoding and that is the principle reason for PC use then there is a reason to change to the Q6600. It shows itself to be significantly better.

If it is for gaming again little point in changing especially onto quad core Q6600. I suspect the same would be true going to a 6600 against what you have at present for gaming
