Updated drivers might yield better performance from the 2900XT in time over the 8800 but thats pure speculation based on the better stats of the card. Without any evidence though and with the 8800 being cheaper it might be the best bet at the moment. Neither would be a waste of money though.
The 2900 does seem to have slight performance advantage..but only very slight. New drivers may improve this but then the same could be said for the 8800...
IMO the 2900 is too power hungry and seems to run far too hot for my tastes.
They suggest you can overclock only when you have one 6 pin and one 8 pin pci-e power connected which is rediculous especially as a lot of people wont have such connectors..even on brand new psu's.
so to sum up, 8800 gives pretty much the same performance for less money.
the 2900 makes your case a sauna and runs you up a nice big power bill..
Pretty much the only reason I'd purchase a HD2900XT would be because it's red and I have a red & black themed case.
That of course relies on finding a black motherboard :)
get a red GTS...
Just go for the 8800GTX......It will eat the ATI option.
Tere isnt actually any good reason to buy ATI now. THe drivers are all sorted for Vista on nVidia cards aswell now.
