graphics card pci-e 1x bottleneck???

hi, I've just tried o/c my Point of View 8800GTS graphics card, which went fine. With Riva Tuner 2.01, I managed to push the card from 513/792mhz to 560/900mhz. I also had to change the BIOS PCI-E to 110mhz so that the card's gpu didn't switch over to 1x.

This was okay up till the point of today, when i realised the graphics card gpu had switched back to 1x. The pc was very slow in loading and doing anything else is slow too.

My initial reaction was to change back to default of 513/792mhz, but this hasn't solved the problem. I even tried adjusting the bios setting between 100mhz and 110mhz, but it seems to be that for a while it will work at 16x, but then revert back to 1x

What could be wrong here?

I'm having the same problem, it's rather fustrating and pretty much killing my OCing attempts.

isn't that a known problem on P5Bs & iirc there are a couple of ways known to resolve it (increasing voltage on nb I think is 1)?

Yeah, did that, don't really want to be pushing it any higher until I bolster the mosfet cooling and reseat the NB heatsink with AS5, and get a new PSU.

Normally uping pci-e bus is the fix. I'm running mine @112. Not sure of any other fixes.

thanks guys...if i up the cpu voltage, i'll end up with too high temps

....i have also been told that if i up the pci-e too much, i risk burning out the hard drive and other components with it...is this true? what advice can you give me please?

PCIe x16 is on a seperate circut, so your other stuff is safe, your GPU should be fine too as long as you don't apply too much voltage to the PEG slot, high frequency will only destabilise the electrical signals to/from the card, just take small steps.

Also those screenshots are for a P5B deluxe..mine is a standard p5b and i'm wondering if these are ok to be used with mine?

Relax the voltages a bit, standard P5Bs don't have the same VRM cooling.

NB = north bridge so it's northbridge vcore you need.

clunk - thats right mate, i tried 110 and it works for a bit, but after every reboot or two, the gpu changes back to 1x...i just don't want to push the frequency too far, incase i damage a component.
