help?
hi, got two questions to ask
Question 1.
i want to upgrade my old system, but dont know which one to get
amd 64 3200+
or
P4 2.4c 800fsb
Question 2.
which graphics card should i get
asus 9600XT (£140)
or
any 9800SE 128
i heard that you could overclock a 9800SE to 9800Pro!! is that true
thx for the help.

First, there is already a theard about p4 vs a64. so may be best to check there as well.
I would say go with the A64.
To get a 9800SE to 9800PRO you need to softmod it. This involves enabling the pipelines that have been disabled. thus making it a 9800pro. This however DOES NOT work on all 9800SE. Even it does not soft mod you are left with a card that is as good as a 9600pro.
Overall i would got for the 9800SE if you can find one for a little more than a 9600pro. Also as they are AIW's they hold their value, and you get the chance to mod to 9800pro.

thx
i saw that thread, but didnt help much
is intel going to bring out 64 cpus for personal computing (not xeon)
should i wait for better cpus or go for the 64bit
-
I personally am going to wait till there's more of a choice of Athlon65 boards available. I run an FX-51 at work, which is blisteringly fast, but requires ECC reg ram. I'll wait for the FX-57 (runs with stock ram), will give me time to save.

cost?
well im not going to spend no more than £150 for a cpu
arent intel going to bring out any 64bit cpus
-
2500+ and o/c or keep the cpu youve got. not like oyou need it any faster..... if performance in games is crap, mybe get a decent gfx card???... youd get better perf in games by just getting a 9800xt and keep ing the cpu tht youve got, and i expect it would cost less aswell... then you can also o/c it a bit aswell
