since the 680i can run unlinked RAM and CPU you may just want to get whatever is fastest..so the reaper stuff.
You probably won't really see any gain over the 8500 though..both stupidly fast.
Clunk has some crucial ballistix that he's got running super fast, have a look at his P5K thread.
i heard the reaper gets very hot
will the Corsair Memory Cooler or OCZ XTC Memory Cooler fit
I'm not sure if they will fit..the cosair one is designed to work with any of their ram and the dominator stuff is quite tall is it may work with the reaper stuff.
As has already been suggested..ballistix ram is in the same price bracket and is a solid overclocker.
A mate has his pc6400 running 1066mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings.
So the pc8500 should be awesome.
the reaper is on sale this week but i'm worried about the heat
The OCZ sticks usually have a screw under the warranty sticker, which makes it impossible to remove the heatsink/heatspreader without invalidating the warranty.
The crucial ballistix have proved to be much faster than the OCZ in both maximum mhz and tight timings for me.
i dont plan on overclocking straight away, something i plan to do a year or so later
yep ballistix is great ive also got some of the 8500 stuff and had it running @ 4-4-4-8 @ 990Mhz on just 2.1V - (also have a dominator fan and the modules never even get warm
Thanks guys you've change my mind and ill probably go for the ballistix (you guys werent talking about the tracers were you?) and i might even pick up the dominator fan aswell (is it quiet?)
the dominator fan is reasonably quiet; ive got regular ballistix 8500 but i think clunky has the tracers (just diff heatspreaders thats all)
