I got some from a local chemist, they had to order it though.
About a £5 I think it was for a large bottle.

White spirit leaves residue though, seeing as it begins it's life as crude oil. Isoprop doesn't which is why it's better suited.
get the akasa timclean - lasts your lifetime, isnt very expensive, does the job well.

Yup - had mine for eons now, and the bottle's still 2/3 full. It'll take away even the most stubbornly caked-on thermal compound.
Go for the chemist option as they are more likely to supply higher percentages of Isopropanol. When looking for Isopropanol, you want one without any water molecules in it as Isopropanol evaporates extremely fast whereas water has a higher latent heat of vaporization - meaning it takes a lot of energy to evaporate water. There is no huge harm in using percentages below 100, 70% is probably the minimum relative concentration of Isopropanol you want.
Alcohol works nicely too btw, in case you happen to know someone who makes their own.....
