Wait. Maybe Upgrade Mobo and Ram, as craig says. Check bargainhunt for links to cheap Mobos.

Waiting is the key tho, your system isnt that old, and Im sure you have money burning a hole in your pocket... but some restraint is needed. Wait a couple of months till the A64's prices have settled down, and the chip package has been resolved so there is just one standard. Also by then the next gen GFX cards will be out, so you can get one of them too.

Think about it like this: how much better will the system you are planning on now be than your current one? If you can afford to wait three months (which I reckon you can), think how much better THAT system will be than your current one.

I for one think the current top end components market has stagnated, with ATI not having any competition from NVIDIA since the Radeon 9700, and intels canterwood chips knocking everything else out (due to the maturity, and lack of headroom for the athonXP... which is still great for the mid range) right up till the recent launch of the A64, which is still too pricey ATM.

I think holding tight is the smart move, although Im tighter than an otters arse, due to the fact Im a student and i NEED to spend at least 80% of my money on alcohol .

I would go for an Abit NF7-S as well. Just becuase they are better

With the RAM, komplett have pc3200 256mb (cas 2.5) for £27 (see the 'A RAM question theard' as i cba to find it now...

    Yes got for a R9800SE.

    BUT.....
It is proabably better to wait until more A64 stuff comes out, and makes everything else drop in price. Also the main graphics companies (ATI, and nvidia) are bringing out new cards in the next month or two. So if you can hang on until then it will probably be better value, or a faster system.

    Will

EDIT: or just what Bob said....lol

yeah i think i will wait.
im not going to get athlon 64 or any 64bit cpus less their price drop.
i might get memory and and case now and wait for new graphics card and mobo later on.

this might sound stupid but does 64bit mobos support 34bit cpu's!!!!!!!
    cheers

no such thing as 34bit cpus afaik

and as blockers says, they use different sockets for different cpus, ie the athlon 51-fx uses a different socket to the Athlon64s, which in turn use different to athlon/duron cpus
