Mew Mobo Help Please

Hi Guys

Wonder if any of you can give me any advice?

I currently have an E6600 running on a ASRock Dual VSTA board. (this was only a stop gap) Board is now Running 6900GS (PCIe) and DDR2 Ram (yay) so time to upgrade the mobo

Now thinking of upgrading the board and have a budget of arround £150 all in.

Im unsure about which chip set to get (680/50i or 965)

Have looked at the Abit QuadGT and the Asus P5NT-WS SLI as well as a multitude of others

Only really proviso is eSATA

My question are:

SLi - Worth it on not?
680, 650 or 965

SLI on a board is best seen as a route to more features (higher spec board), actually using the board for 2 gfx cards in SLI is rare.

SLi was never really worth it, a single 8800 is more powerful (and consistantly powerful), uses less power, and cheaper than 2*7950 cards. Although a second PEG slot might be useful for GPU physics in the future when it becomes more common, at least this way older graphics cards would have some use after they start struggling with modern graphics.

Might be worth looking into one of the P35 based boards like the Asus P5K Deluxe, it might be a tad over your budget but it looks like a good board, comes with eSATA too.

It all depends what you are trying to achieve by upgrading. Are you looking to overclock?

Nobody that knows is saying.
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Intel had changed the VRM again.

P5K deluxe wifi is within your budget, great board, and as future proof as you will get at the moment.

Quad GT is highly regarded, as is the P5B deluxe.

Probably not, but the P35 is.

See right about now I'd be shouting QUAD GT from the roof, however I'm going to reccomend the P35 variant as I've got a stupid feeling its going to be one hell of a board.

Oh and did I mention its on yoyo tech for £95 pre-order, the only downside is you'll have to wait till the 18 of June.

I bought myself a ABIT AW9D-MAX a month ago and its very good.
Everything you could want and only about £130.

I did my homework and this is one of the few boards i found that is solid with little bad said about it.

Right finaly plumped on the Asus P5K (standard) and its a great board apart from no raid on the ICH9 sata ports only the Jmicron and as ones esata pretty much useless teach me to read the specs properly

Will see about getting a seperate raid card for my raptors
