Best HSF and motherboard for intel C2D

I am about to buy components for a new pc and I was wondering what HSF is good at the moment, I have heard alot about the Scythe infinity and I am considering it however I have heard of compatibility problems with certain cases/mobos. I am getting a Antec p182 case.

Also what motherboard is good for Core 2 Duo? Is the Asus p5b deluxe any good?

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well

Best air cooler at the moment appears to be the Thermalright extreme 120.

P5B deluxe is a great board, the P5K deluxe is possibly better.

I would go with E6600 instead of E6700, better bang for buck.

Get a voltage controller to change fan speed.

abit QuadGT is a great board. Tuniq Tower 120 was King of the air coolers, but sems to heve now been trumped by the Thermalright Extreme 120. An E6600 might be a more economical CPU option and they clock well, but the E6700 is great value now and clocks well.

Thanks for the replies, I have noticed that the thermalright 120 extreme is very heavy (nearly 800g), would this be a problem when moving my case around? Occasionally I bring my PC to other peoples places for LANs etc.

Also would it fit in a p182 with no modifications?

Finally is there much difference between the freezer pro 7 and the thermalright 120 if I am bringing the processor to around 3.4 ghz? would there be CPU stability problems with the freezer 7 if I went higher than 3.4? I am asking this because the freezer 7 in the UK is under 20GBP ($40) whilst the thermalright is round about 45gbp ($90) without the fan which is another $20.

My friend has his e6600 clocked to 3.4 with a freezer 7 pro an his load temps are around 47 degrees so they are very good, however a thermalright would probably be a good 5 degrees cooler if not more than that.

AS for the weight it is bolted through the motherboard and it does have a backplate to spread the load so as long as you dont throw your pc around you should be fine.

But i would definately consider an 6600 over the 6700 and either a asus p5b or p5k deluxe or an abit quadgt.

3.4GHz with my freezer 7 gives around 36 Idle and 47-48 loaded.

I'm going to see how the Skythe Ninja Does next week when my next build arrives.

I would probably get the non extreme thermalright 120 if it were my money..theres little difference between them in the reviews... 1 degree maybe.

I have a Tuniq Tower 120 in a P180 - it fits fine, so you need to compare the size specs of the TT 120 against the Thermalright 120 Extreme and work it out. They look similar, but I have not checked.....

... Yes - this is where the better cooler will be an advantage 3.4 is quite a target - not a guarrenteed one.
