    So ive gone for it

well, after having my newish hard disc nearly die on me, and the ram in my old athlon definately die on me, i have just gone for it. wondering what people think:

    e4400 (77 ebuyer)
p5k dlx wifi + liteon sata dvdrw (167 scan)
    2gb crucial ballistix (90 crucial)

i also got the mounting kit for my old xp90c.

hope to have all this up and running, perhaps with a replacement hard disc next week.

    have i done good?

Very nice but overkill to run that cpu at stock speeds.

why the £140 MOBO? you could do fine on a DS3/4 or a P5B

well i figured after looking at clunk's great q6600 results, that i should get a q6600. i ideally wanted to wait until the price drops, but situation forced me into this early thing.

the reason i chose all of these components was for the OC abilities of it - i hear that 3-3.5ghz should be about right with my components, and then when i get the q6600 thatll be another revelation.

i am going to hold off on a good graphics card until i get the cash for the 8800gtx, or the 8900 comes out (ideally 8900 as i want good h264 decoding ability which 8800s dont have), so i shall be using a pci radeon graphics card until i can move up.

Looks good to me, P5K is a great board, hopefully theyll sort out the raid issues soon for the people that use it.

I agree with Tigerboyce - the mobo seems excessive, you could save yourself some cash on that and get a P5B instead for a £40-50 saving.

Also, the ram could be bought cheaper, I got 2GB of Geil PC6400 from overclockers.co.uk for under £60 another £30 saved.

You could use the £70 or so saved to get a better CPU, or to buy the g/f some new shoes (distracts them from the fact the holiday fund is going on the new pc )

well, i hear that ballistix is the only true micron D9 and im having it.

I hear that q6600 is cheaper soon, and the e4400 is a temporary chip.

2gb of geil does not equal 2gb of micron d9.

    just my thoughts!
