Ive heard they are "C" panels - apparently the worst of the three (A/S/C).
However dont know if thats a rumour or not, going to head in my local PCW soon to check! If anyone checks before can you let us know!!
C panel bah, i hope not.
I might be going tonight to check,if not tonight it'll be tomorrow.
I just hope they will check, only way to know is on the back of the panel itself i heard?

I was tempted when I saw this offer yesterday, though with the 4 different panels that are used in it, I've kind of lost interest in the 226BW. Too much of a lottery.
Not sure where you got 'C' from? Everyone that has checked so far are reporting 'A' panels. I'll let you know when mine gets delivered next week!
Yea there is 3 panels for this screen
A is the average one
C is the worse one of the lot(so i here)
S is the one everyone wants
I'm off to collect one from PC World now. I'll let you know what panel I get and how it looks.
I was just at PC world there, i didnt see the sticker above on the back of the screen, unless its under the panel at the back ?
Guy in PC world wasnt very forth coming to check for me, infact he was absolutly useless.
Going to pop to the other PC world thats near me soon.
Any info on that panel you picked up mate ?

Guessing its the long part at the bottom thats been removed on this screen?
Just got mine home - the sticker on the back says "A".
Gonna hook it up now and see what it's like :)
Is there really that much difference??
Having said that, I've got an s panel and it looks fine to me. But not a million times better than the generic hanns g 19" I used to have. Just happy about the lack of dead pixels.
The stock by me is selling out very quickly - the largest store got some in yesterday evening, and they're all gone again already!!
I have a 20.1" Viewsonic VP201S (1600x1200) - should I look at getting this, or not?
A friend of mine in the states has both A and S panels, and said side by side it's possible to distinguish between them if you know what you're looking for, but he also said that he doubted you'd know which was which without direct side by side comparison.
Anyway - mine looks awesome and initially I'm very happy with it.
BTW, it comes with both DVI and analogue cables, and power leads.
Went into PC world and the one on display was an A, he wouldnt open a box up for me to check another panel so i walked out.
I dont want to part with my cash until i get an S panel.
Thanks for the advice given on this thead.
Called into PC World yesterday to buy the SM226BW and there was only the one on dieplay left. Checked the back to find it was an 'A' panel. I doulble checked doing the menue/source bit as listed above to find that is was an AU English spec.:)
Tried for a little more discount (no box) but it was take it or leave it situation.:surrender: £229.99 was a good price (on line price saves a fiver, but needed to check panel type) so I took it. Set up realy easy. Picture is great even running off my Radeon 9800xt (digital output)
Set it up to the recommended 1680X1050 pix res, realy happy, great monitor.:mexican:
Just one question back Guys, would you connect with both analog and digital cables or just digital.
Thanks again
Peter
Under normal use you just use the one connection.
Some monitors do support dual connections whereby you can connect 2 PCs to one monitor (in this case one analogue and one digital connection) and then switch between them with the source selector switch. However, I don't know if this particular monitor supports that feature or not as I've not tested it.
Hi Phil,
Sorry for the delay, works been realy busy.:whip:
Yes, a bit of a bluish tint. I've not had a chance to sync together my pentax, hp printer and monitor yet, hope to get that little job out the way this weekend. I also installed both Natural colour pro and majic tune to help with the task.
The down side to this monitor is that it's such a pleasure to use I'm bringing work home. The setup back at the office can not compete with the one at home.
Peter
Need help !!! Which one is the best ... A / S / C ?
Jenny
S is the best, A is okay, C is to be avoided.
It's been proven just look at the reviews. Not that you will be able to tell which panel it is anymore, afaik it isnt marked on the back or in the setup screen so its impossible to tell which panel your getting.
The price has gone up to £245... but OcUK have now gone up to £280, which would suggest that the trade price has increated too?
Ive seen them side by side, there is no diffrence. Too many people jump on the bandwagon, with no experience of seeing BOTH side by side in person. All everyone seems to do with this monitor is read a few reviews, and everyone jumps on the bandwagon of "omg A/S is best, avoid C" and whatever but there really is no difference.
I bet the majority of people wouldnt know what panel is what, and if a C panel had a S/A panel sticker on the back you would be like "yeh thats good, its got S/A on the back". Trust me theres no diffrence. :)
Thats good then, I doubt anyone can pick out what monitor is what and no one will know the diffrence and this jumping on the bandwagon of a "omg what panel is it" can be stopped !Quote:

Numerous sources (we're talking 50+ here) tell me that the A and S panels are much better out of the box and proper calibration results in the best sub-£250 22" display you can currently buy - on top of that you get a HDMI port and a damn sexy monitor.
I've just gone for the HP w2207 @ £229 from Comet - I saw it side by side with the Samsung, and the HP looks slightly better to me.
Also, it has speakers, a USB Hub, and a fully adjustable stand...
I would recommend going for the HP. No problems with 'panel lotteries' either.
There are even two types of C panels, one is manufactured by CMO and the other by some other company starting with a C, obviously, which is even worse than that of CMO. At least that's what behardware.com says :)
I got an "A" panel (from PC World when on offer) and mine most definitely had the bluish tint out of the box (very noticeable on greys, like toolbar backgrounds etc). After adjusting the RGB values it's absolutely stunning and I'd highly recommend it. Mine doesn't have any noticeable backlight bleeding that seems more common on the "C" panels.
The difference to an "S" panel out of the box is undeniable, but after proper adjustment you couldn't tell them apart.
Hahaha, awesome. :D
I honestly can't see how the LG could be bettered but then I suppose I'd have to see it next to a few other displays.
Is it possible to connect a Samsung 226BW to one PC via VGA and to another computer via DVI? Naturally, both computers would not be on at the same time.
No reason why not - just remember to turn input selection from auto to the desired input.
can these type of displays (LCD), be affected by the magnetic field of a speaker, like a crt display? (green/purple tinge etc).
I haven't noticed such distortions, but most modern kit is magnetically shielded anyway.
I have the 20.1" version - an A panel. These tended to look aweful out of the box, way too much blue. However I did some research cos I was not a happy bunny and ended up using a different colour profile and calibrated it with a program. Now it looks superb. Huge thread regarding the whole 226BW, panel lottery and lots of user colour profiles and info here

Does anyone know if those A/C/S issues are still around? I'm also wandering what the difference between the 226BW and 226CW is. Can anyone enlighten me?
Many thanks :)
/cynical hat on.
The CW is a BW that doesn't have a sticker with A,C or S on the back so you can't tell what you have got and therefore by delighted or disappointed and rant at Samsung or discuss it at length on internet forums.
/cynical hat off.
Actually I don't know but I'm sure if you google it you can find out.
