    Samsung hard drive utility

Just got a new 500GB samsung and thought i should test it before i start to use it so i downloaded the latest HUTIL 203 utility on the samsung site. But for some reason i can't get it to do the self diagnosis test. It asks something about a test loop and it's set at 1 by default but when i press enter nothing happens.

I have the 250GB drive aswell and it does the same thing on this.

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong or point me in the right direction to something that will test my drive is all good before i entrust some data onto it.

I used a CDr and i tried a floppy to and they both had the same result.

What is supposed to happen on the self diagnositic test? I mean should it run automaticaly?

I downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD (Google it), which has loads of DOS utilities including the new and old HUTIL.

You burn the ISO to a CD, set your BIOS to boot from it, then run it from it's bootup menu. I had no problems running HUTIL 2.03 on my brand new Samsung HD501LJs. That said, whilst I did run the self diagnostic test, I didn't try the full write test as it would wipe my drive.

Anyway, suggest you try this (and you get more utilities with it but I haven't tried any of them).

Yea i'll give that CD a go thanks.

It must be a dodgy version of hutil that i have downloaded from samsungs site, or something in my hardware that is stopping it from working properly. Never had issues with maxtors diagnostic disks.
