best dual 1TB external harddrive solution?

I have recently moved to a laptop and I have some 300-500gb sata drives to spare for an external system.

are there any dual caddies on the market?
is there a way for me to just have one 12v power adapter for both drives?
are the cheap USB SATA products safe for the drive?
what is the best solution for serious laptop backup?
    what about ethernet and wireless?

Dual caddies are quite expensive in the UK.

Personally I would recommend you to sell the internal drives and buy some new external drives (e.g. Seagate FreeAgent)

SATA enclosures aren't cheap so there is no price advantage for buying internal+enclosure instead of an external harddrive WITH encryption/backup software.

Harddrives use both 5V and 12V, so a pure 12V adapter won't work. All enclosures that use external PSU will be 5V and 12V.
