A light and portable chassis?

Well, I've got a full ATX board, a full system really. In a P180. But it's just so heavy! I've been contemplating finding another chassis where I can just fit two hard drives for the operating system / essential data (intel matrix raid ftw ) and then my storage drivers can go in an external chassis with some kind of raid1 setup.

But looking around big seems to be beautiful at the moment, the akasa mirage I think it is, that's enourmous, antec 900 same still. P182 etc. etc.

Ideally I'd like to cut down the weight massively so it can be carried about 1/2 a mile without me dying (which is what happens at the moment - car less).

But it's not essential, just wondering if there was an option out there. I crave my quietness that the P180 delivers so nicely

are you building a new system or just changing the chassis of the old one?

Smallest chassis I've seen that takes a full ATX mobo without modification was the Lian Li PC-A05, it's aluminium so should be fairly lightweight.

That's exactly what I did. I found the P180 a bit too big and heavy to carry around, so after some looking around decided on the PC-A05. It's a fair bit lighter and shorter than the P180, but still holds a full ATX mobo, and 2x 120mm fans.

The Antec Super LanBoy would have been ideal, but since they were discontiuned, they seem to have sold out everywhere.
What sort of budget are you looking at?

I've got that (thermaltake Lanbox)

The only problem with it is its a pain for cable managment and the cpu cooler cant be any higher than 4" apart from that great case.

the coolermaster ammo case is quite easy to carry around and is quite light and cheap too. youve just got to get past the looks

Yea it's for my current system. It must accomodate:
1x 5.25" inch bay
2x 3.5" inch internal bays
standard sized PSU
full sized atx motherboard.

Am just looking at that PC-A05 now

I had an Antec Super Lanboy, great case - as light as you like and even had its own carry straps, you might find one on flea bay or you could post a wanted as i think they're discontinued now but it would be worth a look !?

There are a few really light Thermaltake cases for you. They're on a slightly expensive side due to the full aluminium design though.

I thought about getting one of the Thermaltake case but none of the lighter one got 9x5.25"

I like the look of the lian li pc-a05 after looking at it all night! Where did you buy yours from? The only places I can find it from are american shops like newegg.com. Just so I can find the price of it really. Also think it needs a blowhole mod (and I've never done a mod before...), but it should be interesting and fun

Have you got any pics of yours? and are there any issues?

I would also recommend the li pc-a05. Looks great, extremely light and excellent cooling. I know KustomPCs sell them and have used them before, they are great.

PC-A05

I'm in the process of getting mine from kustompcs.co.uk so I don't have any photo's yet. It's taking a while because I'm having it extensively modified to include a lasercut light up design on the side, 2 extra fans fitted above the CPU and GPU and to ensure smooth airflow a blowhole on the front for the front exhaust fan (because it's going flush to the desk I'd otherwise loose half the exhaust holes).


Don't be disheartend if it says out of stock, just e-mail them they're very customer service orientated and have been a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.

I think there modding guys on holiday though so your order might be delayed. Kustom do have the best customer service ever!!!! There prices are not the cheapest around but if you email them they will strive to find your part and specially order it in for you and there emails generally get replied within the hour you send them I have emailed scan twice and it takes them a day sometimes two to reply

I got mine form Kustom PCs along with a slot blower to get rid of the dead hot air that can get trapped at the top. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera, so no pictures.
