New Soundcard for Vista

Ok my old Audigy is not too happy with Vista atm. I only use headphones on my pc and do not record music so do not need anything too flashy, what do you guys suggest?

X-fi. sound is great and they've now released a new version of the xtreme music(think it's call the xtreme gamer) and it's cheap as chips.

I would wait for the vista driver on the Audigy....mean while... just use on board sound...

Say if I wanted one about the same but with a 5.25 inch breakout box with a midi in would the xfi platinum be good?

Xfi is definitely the way to go. Never believed the hype myself about how good it sounded until I heard it. My prev card was the Audigy 2 platinum and the Xfi sounds amazing compared to that.

X-Fi is really really good not had any problems with mine, but have not used it with vista yet! So can't comment on the drivers!

Which isn't actually an X-fi. It's just another value card which bares little resemblance to the model it's named under. The nearest card to it is the Audigy 4 (not the 4 Pro), which is based on the Audigy 2 budget card, which had no connection the true Audigy 2s. In short it's not even as good as an Audigy 2.

I doubt I'll ever buy that Auzen X-fi either - it's a great concept, but while Creative are still producing the drivers for it, I'll be avoiding. I'd go for the Auzen Meridian 7.1 (which has Vista drivers) for a high-level sound card at the moment, or just use the onboard for simple, MP3, video and occasional gaming.

I think your referring to the xtreme audio, that is not xfi while the xtreme gamer is a true xfi card.

I've never noticed anything wrong with my onboard sound which I am using with my 5.1 headphones. Is it really worth getting a discrete sound card?
