    Intel CPU's - VT technology required for 64 bit VM's

    Can someone confrim that E4000 series CPU's wil not run 64 bit VM's?
    I've just noticed the early Athlon64's can't and I had to enable VT on an E6300 based machine to run a 64 but VM.
    Its probably acedemic anyway as I'll probably wait till July 22nd and get me a nice quad for my new rig.

    As far as I know, the e4x00 are indentical (or as near as dammit) to the 6xx0 apart from the 2mb cache and 800 fsb. All are em64t and vt ready. As long as the mobo supports you'll be fine. In fact (as far as I know) I don't think anything is missing from the e4x00 series apart from 2mb cache.

    Virtualisation is definately missing from the E4300, not sure about the E4400.

    I don't have VT on my e4300. Part of me wishes I'd gone an e6300 now after I have ended up doing a lot of virtualisation.

    On another note, has anyone actually seen any comparative benchmarks of c2d cpus clocked at the same frequency for Virtualisation? I've been wondering how much difference having hardware VT on the chip actually helps in real terms running virtual machines but haven't been able to find any compartive benchmarks online. It might sway an upgrade decision later on if I knew it would make any real difference.

    Thanks for the offer badass but without controlled conditions then the results between different systems would not be be too reliable, I'll have a look on the vmware site, thanks Phil_p

    Yup, VT is missing on the 4x00 series. It's surprising how even home users are experimenting with VMs now. But definitely a gotcha for cheap rig builders.
