With ram soon reaching 2ghz will having processor and ram in synch make a faster pc?

From the recent story about corsair having their newest dominator ram running at an effective 2000mhz, I don't think it will be long before you will have ram and the cpu running at the same speed.

Question is, should this mean that if both are in synch, will performance increase by a large amount?(aside from the rest of the kit in the pc)

Nope.
The effective speed of the RAM is the true speed (on the memory module, not inside the chips) multiplied by 2. The processors speed is the FSB of 200, 266 or soon to be 333 MHz multiplied by the processors multiplier.
They will still be asynchronous allthough latency will be slightly improved as the RAM speed will be divisible by the FSB speed.
