Stock Cooler Vs ACF7 Pro Cooler

OK - so I've got my shiny new ACF7 stuck on my e4300.

Measured the temps against stock:

Stock Cooler (Core1 / Core2)

1.8Ghz

Idle - 39 / 40
Load - 54 / 54

2.7Ghz

Idle - 42 / 40
Load - 67 /67

3.0Ghz

Idle - 44 / 44
Load - 75 / 75

ACF7

1.8Ghz

Idle - 43 / 43
Load - 57 /57

2.7Ghz

Idle - 44 /43
Load - 68 /68

3.0Ghz

Idle - 43 /43
Load - 72 /72

So....the temps are worse at stock speeds, and 2.7Ghz, but marginally better at 3.0Ghz. What's that all about?

And also....it seems far noiser than the stock cooler. The PC was almost silent before, now I can hear the whirr of the cooler.

Any thoughts oh Gurus?

Sounds very odd indeed.

What did you use to clean the cpu before installing the freezer?

It's not a silent cooler thats for sure but it should be quieter than the stock one.. Sounds like a bit of a dud..

I used some kitchen towel with a spot of Isopropyl. CPU looked dead clean before putting the new cooler on. Clipped on nice and tight.

And definitely noisier than stock.

probably a dud one. my ac4 is alot quiter than the wooshtastic intel one

Well...I have just tried the fan from the other AC7, and it is equally noisy.

Cooling seems ok now, and has dropped to 39/38 at 2.7 Ghz idle. but the noise isgoing to pi$$ me off.

Unless my expectations are off?

I experienced the same sorta thing when switching to AC7 from stock cooler. The cooling is without a doubt much better, but the fan does seem more louder then the stock cooler.

Annoys the hell outta me aswell coz its the only thing i can hear from the case, sometimes i just use speedfan to slow down the rpm's a bit..usually does the trick but still would appreciate a quieter fan though

Temps are better, but I don't think the noise is a good trade off. Wonder if a different fan can be attached....blue tack and sticky tape....

Kitchen towel may not be such a good idea - as thet are not really 'lint free' and may leave a few fibres behind that would hinder good contact. Coffee filters work well, and of course lint-free cloths. Might be worth removing, re-cleaning and re applying new paste?

yeah good old blue tack eh! could you change the fan on a AC7..i suppose it wouldnt be AC7 really then would it??:confused:

its really annoying me now that i think about it, im looking to change it now (bein a bit dramatic i know) have you been researching on a quieter cooler??? any suggestions???

@EtheAv8r - temps are ok; not brillo but acceptable. Noise is my concern as the machine is on 24/7 and the noise at night is going to bug me.

@ace 87 - yep time for some more research. Just a bit annoyed as if I knew was as noisy I wouldn't have bothered.

Well Hexus did a review not to long ago on some 25 coolers! The overall winner according to them was the thermaltake typhoon..dont know how quiet is is though?

I've got the Freezer 64 Pro which should be virtually identical and certainly has the same fan. I haven't compared temps with a stock cooler but it was definitely the noisiest thing in my case until I enabled Q Fan control (ASUS mobo). This cut the fan speed to around 1400 from 2400 rpm and it's now much much quieter.

If yo don't have a fan control app, Zalmans fanmate controls are very easy to use and have a good speed variability range. You may want to check the connector type on yr fan and mobo is the same as on the fanmate.

alright mate, i use speedfan to control the rpms on the fan. Ive enable Q Fan aswell on my board and it has 3 settings: optimal, performance and silent (i think).

On optimal and silent i get the 'cpu fan error' everytime i boot coz the rpms is really low (at like 300), so that leaves me with the performance mode as the only option which, runs on the highest rpms all the time. :(

Odd, I use the optimal setting and it goes much faster that 300 rpm but much slower than the 'performance' all out speed one.

Try and see if you can change the cpu fan alarm threshold which I think is 800rpm on mine.

yep - me too. Board is ASUS p5b so should simple enough.

Speedfan allowed me to drop the RPM, but temps did go up accordingly.

did it work for ya kungpo? I think im just gonna try and find a better cooler tbh coz although the rpms could be slowed then the temps start goin up :( i cant win
