Can this even be beaten for quality at such a ridiculously low price?
£36.94 using Google Checkout.
How's that for a bargain quality psu?
DFI LanParty NF3 250gb
Athlon E6 Venice 3000+ oc @ 2500MHz
2x512mb OCZ Platinum EL PC3200 @ 250 3-3-3-6
Seagate 80GB SATA
FX5900 Ultra overclocked to 490/932
Youll struggle to find any monitor thats over 20" for less than £200 for a middlish quality

Cheers for the pointers guys,
I think PSU wise, if possible, I'd like to use a modular, just to keep the case clean inside - he will most likely want some form of window and I've never been the best at hiding cables!
I still rate the Hiper and the price for the 530 version is very low compared to others (kind of makes me wonder why!) but for modular, sexy looks and a decent price, I can't seem to beat it.
In terms of the monitor, I will probably end up spending more like £250 and getting him something around 22" (ideally tv tuner enabled) the result of this is having to save £50-100 on the base unit in order to come in under budget.
I found a couple of nice 22" widescreens for approx £200 without any tuner stuff, the LG's look nice and my 17" version is a really nice piece of kit.
I'll most likely get some pics and prices and let him take his pic.
LG L226WTQ gets two thumbs up from me but I agree with Mike, the one on Play looks perfect.
Looks that way certainly, that is the one i'd be looking at.
I suppose really I'd have to look at whether a pci tv tuner and £50 cheaper monitor would be better than the all inclusive option on play.
I think the all inclusive would probably be better just because of the scart inputs etc etc.
I wonder if it has a remote that would probably seal the deal
The Hiper sux. My 580 lasted a year and a few days before blowing up, and I'm not the only one - you've been lucky. Sacrifice a bit of bling to get some quality - he won't need anywhere near 500W anyway.
My son has the case, despite my advice, and now wishes he had taken it. The Antec 900 is much better, or save a pile by getting one of those cheap E-buyer cases if all he wants is bling (although this one is not ultra-cheap).
I've had my hiper for approx 2 years now without any glitches at all, I've got a couple of mates who have the same supply with no errors.
I'm suprised to hear of a lot of problems because my experience has certainly not led to me believe it would be an issue. As I've said a couple of times on the thread, can you suggest a PSU which is decent and under £40? because if not, I will probably go for the hiper anyway
Interesting comment on the case, why does he wish he didn't have it? Are there any particular issues with it?
Bearing in mind this guy is not going to require any significant cooling (to the level where I may stick with a stock cooler to save a few quid)
The case was not particularly well built in any area, the door is annoying, and it's a tight build. For the price it should be better. YMMV.
Another thing to note about the case - leave it unattended for a month and it'll look like a dust storm's hit the inside.
If he really has to have that case dust filters are essential.
I actually have that problem myself!!
The room is really dusty, i dread to think what my sexy new black themed peripheral set will look like in a week!
