680i or....

so the 680i mobo is back it stock, but i'm now having second thoughts. Can't decide whether i should go for the 680i or p35 or any other. i might sli in the future (not really sure).
so i need your help before it goes out of stock again

Tough call!

It's emerged that 680i works with Penryn, and obviously P35 does.

Both clock well with Quads (eVGA 680i Rev2), the 680i will be better to get the most out of your memory with its unlinked memory abilities.

680i is probably a bit mature - so might be best to go 680i if you might go SLi in the future and you won't miss out on Penryn support.

680i is garbage, its best avoided unless you absolutely have to have sli.

My P35 board clocks memory much higher and tighter than the 680i could.

Which P35 board do you have?

I've been reading a lot of threads but with only Asus and Gigabyte out there isn't much choice.

A lot are saying their P5K DLX runs cool, others say it runs hot.

The NB runs cool on mine, the SB is very cool, but the mosfets are like a little furnace

On every forum I visit, I see nothing but people complaining about the 680i - I would avoid personally.

Most the people who moan about 680i boards have never even tried one.

Personally I think they're fantastic. Offers me everything I wanted at the time and will want in the next couple of years seeing as it will support penryn.

My mate has got the evga and the abit..and he knows far more about this stuff than I do..he swears by them.

Unlinked overclocking is a nice way to break yourself into it as it's easier than breathing and the board works as well as any imo.

I've just bought an asus P5B for a budget system and while it's a lovely board and I would recommend it to anyone..I still think the 680i boards are great and would also recommend these. Can't comment on the P5K though..

You say they get slated in all the forums..so why do so many pc review sites and magazines use them?

i was all for the 680i. until it came back in stock, that was when i actually thought about it again, and became unsure whether to go for the 680i or go for the p35.

Going off your first post, the only decision is if you are going to go SLI, if not, go P35.

I see you have a 2007wfp monitor. SLI with that would be pointless, you can easily run that with a single card.

But if you look down to the tread i started (first build, double check) there are some gigabite p35 boards that will do sli, still waiting for anyone to say if they are any good though.

Those Gigabyte boards dont do SLI, they would need to use hacked drivers, and the second PCI-E slot would run at 4x.

I think its a mistake on the scan site.

Yeah they're aren't sli boards...they would be rubbish even if you ever did get it to work.
