Surely these temps are wrong....

my system would shut down if these were correct wouldn't it?

this is an E6600 at stock with the stock HSF, it is seated correctly I've reseated it about 3 or 4 times and still the same readings

I have AS5 thermal paste on it...

I've tried installing CoreTemp and TAT to see what reading I get from them but they wouldn't work (Vista x64)...

someone please say if I've got anything to worry about?

HOLY CHRIST! Turn your PC off and get a better cooler!

As a matter of fact, it appears as though the cores aren't hot, could be one of the sensors are fried or reporting wrong temperatures.

Try feeling the heatsink, or feeling around it, there may be no contact between the CPU and HSF.

I will be getting a better cooler soon, but surely these are wrong?

I can feel heat at the bottom of the HSF, so there is contact

Dont panic, the ones to worry about are the core 0 and core 1.

None of the programs you have shown are accurate anyway.

Try coretemp.

Have you checked what they say in the BIOS?

Touch the heatsink - what does it feel like?
Make sure the fan is spinning.

It would be almost impossible to hit that temp on a E6600 under load, never mind directly after bootup.

EVEREST looks like its showing the correct-ish temps under core1/2 section.
I doubt the system would be:

a) stable
b) still running (auto shut-off)
c) fast (the CPU throttles when it gets over its rated temp)

If it actually was at that temp

2. There is heat (but not boiling, I can touch it) at the bottom of the HSF, and yup the fan is spinning

Those temps are wrong most monitoring programs dont fully support a lot of C2D motherboards yet. Adding Vista further complicates that. The core one and two readings are correct, ignore the rest.

You on vista64? It did that for me on vista64...not sure if there is a fix yet.

On my computer.....coretemp 95 works with vista 32, but not winxp......try coretemp94 that works in winxp and might in vista 64.

CoreTemp94 got the Driver Not loaded error but it did open, and it's not reading the temps...

the BIOS is reporting 49.5 - 50˚C, them programs are now reporting 47˚C ,

they are still quite high for stock tho? I guess I'll need to hurry on getting a new cooler lol

Why - that's well within the limits

Dont worry about a new cooler unless you're planning to clock the balls off it
