What to get for 600 quid?

    Hi

I have up to £600 to spend on a new PC... I already have the case and optical drives.

    It needs to be QUIET!

I was looking at basing it on the INTEL - CORE 2 DUO E6600 which is available for £150 now. Is this a good price or are there better CPUs out there for the same sort of cash? Can anyone also suggest the best board and RAM to couple with this, and a heatsink that will be ultra quiet?

    Thanks

    What case do you have?

I just built my first "silent" pc

PSU: Corsair 520w HX Whisper - unaudiable.
CPU Cooler - Scythe Ninja - will run fanless if you want to leave the cpu at stock settings. Comes with a near silent fan anyway.

the e6600 is great.. I use it in two machines.. Perfect chip for the money and bags of overclocking potential.

Hard Drive - Western Digital AAKS drives are very quiet.

Motherboard. Asus P5b's are very good. I bought a P5b -E Plus for mine which overclocks well.

The delux version is an awesome overclocker.

Theres the new P5K boards also check out clunks thread for info on that one.

RAM- has to be crucial ballistix for me..fantastic stuff.

Yeah but check out scans today only.. £132 even better

The case is all important for silence. I used an antec p182 which is the mutts nuts for silence.
