    Case fan suggestions

    Hi Guys,

I was looking for a little advice on case fans.

Currently I have a Lian-Li PC60A-PLUSII, which has the following fans:

    1x80mm on top
    1x80mm on back
1x120mm on side next to GFX card
1x120mm on the front for the HDD's.

I was thinking of replacing the one on the side over the GFX as the card seems to get very hot. The fan itself is does seem to be doing a good job, lots of heat comes out that way and it's not noisy.

I'm afraid I don't know what type of fans the case came with by default, but these have not been altered at all.
    I have two questions really.

#1 - Irrespective of the fans already in there. Are there any fans in particular that are so good, it's worth getting them anyway?

#2 - Would it make more sense to alter the stock cooler on the GFX, rather than the case fan?

The fan on the side should be blowing in, not out, IMO.

I have it running as the case was setup, as shown in the animated pic at the bottom of this page:

Ah, sorry, I presumed it was a side panel fan. I've never thought this style of Lian Li case had very good airflow.

The airflow itself seems fine to be honest (providing you're not looking for super super o'clocking).

However I've noticed the northbridge getting hot so am looking for a cooler better than stock for that. I think it may be a combo of high ambient temp, o'clocked bits and bobs and not ideal case flow

Tbh I was just wondering if I could improve things purely with fans without going to the hassle of an entire case change etc

I would imagine that the key fan might be the front intake. If that's not pulling in enough cooler air, or the flow is being obstructed, then the other fans might be largely shifting around hot air.

Have you checked the front mesh for dust, or do you have cables, etc. obstructing the flow from that fan?

Sharkoon fans have a good reputation, especially the 'golf ball' ones.

CustomPC did a large fan lab test not long ago which might help:
