300MB of maps takes up 2GB

First off, I love my new Nokia N800, I find a new use for it every day.

Maemo maps for example, Free + Awesome! Saves spending £150 on the Nokia kit as I can just get a GPS receiver that it will work with.

I've been downloading loads of maps to a 2GB SD card so i can use it without a wifi connection but the card became full way before I expected.

Because of the FAT file system and the fact that there's 60,000 files that are only like 200Kb at the most right?

Anyway round this? Please? I don't want to only be able to use 300meg of a 2 gig card.

    Cheers

You can reduce the cluster size of the memory card. You will need to format it first though

Ah cool. Is there anyway to find out what it currently is because isn't 512 bytes the default and the smallest? The options windows is giving me are:
    Allocation Unit Size:
    512
    1024
    2048
    4096
    8192
    16k
    32k
    64k

There might be an easier way, but go into widows disk defrag, analyse the drive and the view the report, it should tell you in the top pane.

Actually i think 32KB is the default allocation size, at least that is what the SD card for my camera is formatted as.
