pre bulti pc?

hello,
i have looked at vadim for pc's
vadim
but according to the spec it says 350-500W PSU
but that doesnt leave much room for upgrading later on.
can you really run nvidia 8800GTS 640mb on a 500W psu?
i guess it can otherwise they wouldnt allow you to spec it.
has any one tryed?

or pcspecialist
they both seem decent pricing and you can spec any type of PC
i dont know if eiether of them are any good,
if anyone has brought from eiether of them before please tell me if they where good or rubbish and why.
building the PC myself is still an option.

I had a mate who bought a pc from pcspecialist and has had a few problems with it. The case they used was way too small for the 8800gtx he got so it wouldn't fit in the slot properly and kept coming out because if you tried and screw it in then the other end came out. It was pretty shoddy workmanship to be honest but they wouldn't give him another case so I'd not recommend them.

You should build yourself. I did my first one a few months ago and am so glad I did. It took a while (no thanks to my NH-U12F taking about an hour by itself) but it was a good experience and once you've done one then you won't think of buying off the shelf again.

thanks for warning me about pcspecialist.
at least if i build it myself i can choose all the componants i want.
since most of the configarations on wwebsites like example vadim always seem to not have one item i want which really annoys me.
i would definatly get the corsair 620W PSU no doubt.

Scan make some prety good pre-built pc's. My university paid for me to get a new pc (had to be pre built) so I went for a scan 3XS system. The quality of the build was awesome and any problems were immediately fixed. Highly recommended

Seriously though if your willing to do-it-yourself i would always recommend it, it’s not hard and there is plenty of support here should you run into any problems.

As far as pre-builds go, i think Vadim have some really nice spec machines which from what i have heard and seen are very well built, but also very expensive. If you like what you see from vadim go out and source the components yourself and D.I.Y it. This not only ensures you get a top of the range machine for the best price but also takes out the possibility of the components not being compatible (if your unsure for whatever reason)

I would also say the scan systems look very good fort he money. Plus they are much more customizable and the vadim ones look like they have slapped a massive premium on them. The service you will get from them or alienware will be very good because of this so it's your choice. They are all very well built anyway.

Try this. Go to Scan 3xs and pick all the components you want for a machine and see how much it comes to. Now do the same on a component-by-component basis at Scan and see what the price difference is. That's what I did and I decided that the price difference wasn't worth it for me. Is the difference in price something you're willing to pay for them to put it together and support it?

In reality I saved a fair chunk more than that difference by buying my ram elsewhere (at the time scan's ram was overpriced compared to the competition, perhaps it still is) and I got a good deal on a gfx card which I found in the bargains forum here.

All I'm saying is see what the difference in price is and then decide whether you feel it's worth it.

Oh, and don't forget to add in the extra fun multiplier of doing it yourself and the wonderful feeling of joy you get when it works (or the 'I want to die' feeling when it doesnt ).

...then again perhaps I'm just overemotional.

i think i will build the next pc myself.
i know this way i will get all the componants i want plus the
fact i built it myself!
i consider the case quite an important componant.
my house is really dusty so i would need a case with really good airflow and easy to clean.
i think i will skip the vista route if i do get the pc this xmas to avoid any troubles.
i have completely taken apart computers for work exprience and then stuck in the new mobo and put it back together.
so my first build shouldnt be to hard.
