Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Nice Guige also found on Google Thanks for those nice pic's on the Bios! :)
I have 1 minor problem on this Asus P5K-E Wifi when i change the settings in Bios save & exit it wont post unless i turn off the power supply & re-start the computer?
This happens after Bios exiti & Exit from Memtest, otherwise all is well??
The Overclock values & settings aren't lost so not much of a problem just annoying!
I never had this problem with the Gigabyte 965P-S3 motherboard.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I will try it now and see what happens thanks
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
still not managing to actually overclock my cpu, as previously stated on my post, regardless of what i set the fsb and ram at it will not budge it off stock, any ideas?
just reset the cmos and now not even a post screen....this mobo seems to be terribly unstable, RMA'd it once but was tested and "fine" so got it sent back, has been booted and stable at stock but now i have reset the cmos not getting anything but a black screen.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
well no luck, cant change the fsb or the multiplier, could it be the motherboard its locked somehow? the fsb its not greyed out it even says on the side that you can change it, but nothing.... or the proc might be a no good one,who knows. I even used the beta bios and the 808 bios but no luck. Im getting ready to trow this thing out of the window and go AMD (minus the video cards HDDs and psu?.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Ok,
Tried it again,
Upped the RAM voltage but still no joy.
Took some pics of the BIOS however,
If anyone sees anything that shouldn't be enabled/disabled let me know, as far as i know it's all right.

Once again, any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Why is the CPU voltage set at 1.35?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
It's running stable, i've had Prime running for 12 hours with no errors...
So thought i'ld leave it like that.
Would you suggest increasing it then?
I do increase it when i raise the FSB but no matter how high i increase it still doesn't boot..
This is a screenshot of CPU-Z..
I remember that i had problems originally with the voltage, it was showing a hell of a lot lower on CPU-Z and on Asus Probe so i increased it higher in the BIOS to raise it a little,
Here's the screenshot.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
@IainM: Yes, for 380 FSB, I would recommend at least 1.4V, maybe even 1.4125V. I run at 410 FSB and have my voltage set to 1.45V, which has little effect on the temperatures (raises them about 2C from a 1.425V setting). It's also worth mentioning that if you can find the settings for those five DRAM settings after your 4-4-4-12, it can stabilize your system quite a bit. I tried leaving those on auto, then putting in the "suggested" settings from G.Skill's forums, and found I was able to tighten the timings a bit and even overclock the RAM slightly. Now, what I've discovered is my RAM at stock voltages will only OC to around 416 FSB, so at 410, I'm playing it safe. Before I changed those auto settings, it would lock at anything past DDR2 800.
@logo113 & bbarnes: Sorry guys, for your issues I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong, especially if you're following Clunk's guide exactly (I've followed a few different OCing guides in the past, and Clunk's is as good or better than any other I've seen, and I don't see a thing he's missed as far as the P5K is concerned).

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Ha I'm dumb, i figured it out, in order to change the fsb and the multy you have to TYPE the number, I feel like an dumb***!, thanks guys for all the help. now to work on the HD 2600 HTs!!!
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
No worries, logo113, glad you got it sorted out. I understand what you mean, though. I'm used to doing the +/- thing on most of those menu options, also, or sometimes enter and pick from a list.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
The RAM setting are as stated on the package.. I increased the Voltage by .1 aswell but as soon as i go over 380 FSB it just won't boot at all..
The system has run a good 12 Hours of Prime at these settings so i'm pretty sure that it is stable so is there really any need to up the CPU voltage?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
lost my rag completely yesterday with it and went out and bought a new motherboard,
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3, installed it booted fine and is now running my 1.8ghz core2 at 3.2ghz stable, rang my supplier for the asus mobo today they have given me another RMA but im not holding out much hope for a refund as i have send it back before and they have said nothing.
Lesson to be learnt here is dont buy a state of the art new asus motherboard, sticking with my trusty gigabyte from now on, thanks for the advice and help anyways pretty sure now its defo a dodgy motherboard.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
@bbarnes: There's always a chance of a hardware defect when it comes to computers. I've had plenty of RMAs in my lifetime, and have had very good luck overall with both Asus and Gigabyte. Still, there are always nightmares. My most recent were a bad ethernet port on my P5K (Basic) which prompted a trip to CompUSA to get the only other board that had the OCing abilities I wanted (the P5K Deluxe WiFi). I couldn't be happier with the new mobo, though! Also, in the process of upgrading, I bricked my P5B with a firmware update that I ran through the Windows updater, and then after placing a tech support call and leaving a message, never got a call back. I finally just decided to avoid the hassle of a repair to potentially sell the mobo to someone and trashed it. Still, once you find that perfect combo, it sure is nice to have a system that purrs. :D

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Very helpful guide to overclocking!!! I just got the ASUS P5K Premium mobo , so I will follow this O.C guide carefully..I promise..:)
Any more advise for ASUS P5K Premium users..?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
How do you get the RAM to run 1:1 on the p5k-e, the lowest option is 677 and if i raise the fsb it just raises past 677 there is no lower option and running everest and cpuz comfirms it's running at the speed it states in the bios.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
So I got my Q6600 G0 running at 3.72Ghz (9X412 @ vcore 1.4625) with temps of around 25C each core (custom water cooling). My Ram is set to 5-5-5-12 @ 1.21V (OCZ Gold 2 X 2GB dual shared)
Now it runs stable under Vista 64bit but once I restart the pc it won't boot for some reason unless I press several times ON/OFF :)
Could it be my vcore?
