Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hi there Clunk!
Thank you for the beginners Guide you have provided an excellent guide.:clapping:
Have recommended your guide to others after i have used it for my Asus P5K-E Wifi-AP.:)
Since this guide is 12 Months old & there has been Bios updates changing some options in the Bios such as Load calibration & some others that i cant think off.
Is there a Version 2 in pipeline somewhere with a little more involvement in more tweaking in the Bios.
Still unsure of some choices & what they do..lots of these are set by you on Auto in the Guide....such as Cpu voltage reference 0.63xetc?.
North Bridge Voltage reference 0.67x?.
I suppose i am asking for a more advanced guide or maybe just some of the new bios options what they are & what you would recommend. :bowdown:
Keep up the good work thanks inylbt23
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I can't get mine going at 9X411 around 3.71Ghz
I can only go until 3.61Ghz (9X400)
I have the following:
1) X800XL vid card
2) Q6600 G0
3) OCZ Gold XTC PC2-6400 (4 X 1Gb per stick of dual shared RAM)
4) Asus P5K Premium
5) 650W
6) Custom Water Cooling
Here are some pix of the numbers I am getting:

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
does anyone have ASUS P5K PREMIUM/WIFI-AP?
there is a new BIOS ver.0504 maybe someone has tried it?
Is it stable with OCed Q6600?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
HI,
I did not finish reading your OC post, but I was wondering if this will also apply to my mobo:
P5W DH Deluxe with Q6600. :(
Looks very similar to the P5K model. I just want to make sure prior to start OC my system.
thanks for your inputs!

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hi!
A question about RAM overclocking. In the guide, there is a Sandra screenshot showing about 2% improvement after tweaking, but in the text it says some real world applications have greater benefit.
Which real world applications are those ? How much is the performance improvement ?
Thanks,
David
P5K issues with 8800GTS G92 512MB
I have a P5K-E/Wifi and an EVGA 8800GTS G92 512MB card. For some reason, overclocked or not, the system will not recognize the video card. Sometimes I will get the video card not detected error code. Once I do get it to boot, it runs fine as long as I never turn it off. With any other video card, I never see this problem. Yes I have replaced the 8800GTS, tried diff RAM and replaced about every component trying to track the issue down. I have also tried various BIOS flavors. Does anyone know if there is an incompatibility between these? Maybe because the 8800GTS is PCI-e 2.0?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hello folks, my first post here.
I'd like to thank Clunk for making this guide. I had wanted to get my Q6600 to 3GHz as my goal and using Clunk's guide, I now know that my CPU is capable of doing 3GHz easily.
I havent tried over 3GHz because...
My Thermaltake Big Typhoon v1 cannot handle the thermal load the Q6600 does :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
I watched in SpeedFan as my temps rose to 65 degrees Celsius under OCCT load :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: then I knew I shouldn't even attempt any more further.
So thus I brought everything back to stock.
Now question is: Which CPU cooler is the best that can handle the Q6600 being OC'ed to 3GHz?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I use the Zalman 9500. It's easier to fit in most cases and provides excellent cooling. Just dispose of the fan adjuster and hook it directly to the mobo, as you might as well run it full speed. Even at full speed it's a very quiet fan and my system stays at about 43C under load. (I overclock to 3.6GHz on my Q6600/G0, currently.)
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hello all,
This is my first post and also the first day of overclocking a CPU.
I got a q6600 (b3) currently running @ 2.7 Ghz (9x300fsb) With temps at load 75 (average: core 0 & 1 @ 79 C and core 2 & 3 @ 72 C) with stock fan on an Asus p5k.
I use OCCT as torture test and the temps are from Speedfan. With Prime 95 the temps are a bit lower, 71-75 C.
The system has 1 intake fan and 2 outtake fan's.
When the system is running at stock speeds the max temp is 68 C.
Are these temps acceptabel?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Well, while I'm using a G0 @ 3.6GHz (9x400), not a B3, those temps seem pretty high. I'd recommend removing and reseating the heatsink with some good thermal compound and see what happens. I would consider my last reseating of the heatsink to be fairly good (I've done better, but my hand slipped a bit while setting it down) with Arctic Silver, and I'm getting 34C System, 28C Core1 with no load, and under load it goes up to around 38C on a cool day, 42C on a warmer one.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Nice temps, I got It clocked @ 3.01 Ghz Now. max load for core =83 C
Full Load temps (prime 95 & speedfan)
system=48 C
Cpu = 69 C
Core 0 & 1 are both 83 C
core 2 & 3 are both 79 C
Idle temps
system = 48 C
Cpu = 47 C
Core 0 & 1 = 58 C
core 2 & 3 = 54
I often use this PC for gaming and it never gets 100% load. As for yesterday I played Company of Heroes (cpu intensive) which runs at the first 2 cores only and get an average of 66 C. ( this was on 2.7 Ghz) and 71 C @ 3.0 Ghz
But I think I let it @ stock speeds, I just tested what a B3 is capable off. only think I notices that if you overclock 100 mhz at a time the max temp only rises about 3-4 degres. stock max load = 68 C, @ 3.0 Ghz max load = 83 C
