Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I would call those temps high, but not unreasonable. Did you try reseating the heatsink with some new thermal compound yet? Even with the stock fan (which I personally dislike very much), I think you can get it a bit cooler. If you were willing to invest in a Zalman 9500, I would guess that your temps would drop 20-25C easily. There is a night and day difference between a full copper, well designed heatsink and the stock ones that ship with the Intel chips.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I've just cleaned the computer, and made it dust free. The idle temps dropped pretty much.
This is on stock speeds because the temp when overclocked is to high.
Idle:
CPU =38 c
core 0=48
core 1=48
core 2=44
core 3=45
Load (with OCCT)
CPU =55
core 1=67
core 2=67
core 3=62
core 4=62
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hi all
Nice guide, very easy 2 follow ,in fact 4 the first time I`m beginning 2 understand how things work in a pc.Big thanks 2 Clunk.
First my specs. C2D E6750 2.6Ghz /P5K-SE / 2x1G KingMax 1066 DDR2/ nVidea 8600 GT / Samsung sata II / xp sp 2.
Ok so 4 me, games put the heaviest load on my pc,as 4 other apps I rarely do encoding, archiving and so on.
So I follow the guide, put everything on manual under clock to 1.8Ghz ,fsb 300/multi. x6, ram 600mhz, nice 1:1 ratio in Cpu Z right? and go wild benchmarking.
STALKER using fraps I got 17 to 22 fps
Fear Perseus Mandate -performance test -min27/ averege52 / max 108 fps 64%over40fps
Crysis cpu benchmark 2 - 18 fps
Ok so I go 2 bios change fsb 400 ,multi: x8 , ram changes to 800 , CPU Z reports 3.2Ghz ,1:1 ratio ,ram 400 and of course I go benchmarking.
STALKER same settings, same map, using fraps 17 to 24 fps
Fear PM -same test/ settings - min31 / averege54 / max108 / 70% over 40 fps
Crysis cpu benchmark 2 -20 fps
My conclusion ,at least 4 gaming I see almost no difference and I`m pretty sure the vast majority uses comps mainly 4 gaming. So should I invest in cooling? but why?
On the other hand this guide was very informative 4 me . Thank you.
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Overclocking a cpu will increase you're performance in games, however you will only see big performance differences if you got a fast gpu in games. Crysis is optimized for multi threading. But the cpu is often "waiting" for the gpu to render. The more fps you get the faster a cpu must work.
For an example: An 8800 GTX requires a dual core 3.0 Ghz to work at maximum speed. Now think about putting 2 9800 GX2 in sli with a dual core 3.0 Ghz and you can see that overclocking the cpu will have great performance increases.
Try an other application to test performance. You might want to run pcmark at standard speeds and then at overclocked speeds. Or just unzipping/unrarring a Large file.

Hi!
Could I ask P5K owners to check my problem in thread : Slower concurrent disk access with NCQ ? ? (sorry for spamming, but only other users can help me; respond in that thread, to keep this one "clean")
Thanks!
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
new to this lot myself
just put together a p5k Ai lifestyle mobo with q6600 quad core cpu, 2x1gb corsair ddr2 800mhz pc2 6400 cl(4-4-4-12)mem, geforce 8600gt 512mem, with Artic Cooler Freezer pro +2x120mm fans and seagate 250gb HD
Now the hard bit, dont have a clue what the mobo setting should be, all on default settings, apart from the mem i changed that as it was set at 5-5-5-18 clocks would like to get the cpu up to 3ghz if poss but dont know how..ant help would be most welcome have got pics from cpu-z but dont know how to upload them onto here
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
start with basic front side bus increases m8, check clunks overclocking thread, its worth its weight in gold :)
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hey guys anyone ever recieve wierd Asus Pc Probe readings for their motherboards? im getting 171 degree celcius with only a 3.4ghz oc and 1.45v vcore 2.2v for mem
Thanks
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hello,
I have strange problem:
I don't see any overclocking options on my BIOS v02.61 American Megatrends ( like Jumperfree configuration).
How can i unhide them?
Thanks!
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
hello guys
i have a pk5 se with the e6750 and 2 rams at 800mhz i just wanted to ask if my rams are responsible for cant overclock my pc over 400mhz.is tha normal?when the speed of the rams exced 800 mhz the pc freezes i put the fsb at 350mhz and the rams to run at 815 mhz and it freezes again and i think its the rams.they cant run more than 800mhz.what do you think?should i get rams with more mhz??thanks :)
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Curious, what is the dram command rate? What should that be put at?
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
So in the case of a P5K + Q6600 + 8800GT system (like mine), is it better to upgrade the GPU rather than OC the Q6600?
I play mostly RTS games like C&C3, WiC, RA3 and my display is 19" with 1280x1024 max....

Clunk
have just started using your guide today after weeks of deliberation and putting off overclocking. Thankyou very much for all the work put into the guide.
My q6600 is running at 3.33ghz now as i run stress tests and im feeling alot better about trying out further tests now
thanks again
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
You ever figure this out? I've got the same problem.

Given the last post on this thread, which itself started in 2007, was well over 7 years ago, I doubt you're going to get much joy. It also doesn't help that you don't quote the specific problem you mean - this is a 600+ post thread, so I suspect there are a few problems mentioned!
If you have a specific problem, I recommend starting a new thread and giving proper details so our knowledgeable community can assist you. :)
