so i think if i put 2.3 or 2.4 v throught it, will it be ok? this dominator heats up to 25C while playing STALKER... Without fan it heats up tu 30C. In default ram chips doesn't go with fans.

What you measurung it with??
I have a sensor on mine Crucial Ballistix 8500 running @1200 with 2.25v i get 29C idle & 37~38C load. thats with a corsair memory cooler & a 120mm side panel fan(intake).

The device is called Raynger ST2L. Goolgle it.. but it measures dominator(pasive cooller) temperature. I guess chips are a little hotter.. Also have a side pannel 240mm. But like Clunk said if fan isn't close to memory chips it doesn't lower temperatures.
By the way these two 80mm case fans should do better then corsair dominator fan. and costs much lower... Thank's for the temperatures, Supershanks!

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Well, ordered Q6600 and P5K-E (and other components) yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to use this guide soon :)
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Guess you won't be using that permanently:lol:
I'm using a thermal sensor lead that fits onto a fan controller, a tad smaller:D
Depends how high my 120mm is running. On low it intakes colder air directly over the path of the ram & dominator cooler, so warm air is blown away from memory.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Anyone know a program that I can measure the Pwms on this board? And perhaps the Nb? :help:
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I dont think there are sensors for them, or at least if there are, I havent found anything that reads them.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Owk, I was reading the Quad core thread and thought I saw somethings about measuring the Mosfets or similar.
Was thinking of gettin myself a Q6600 and clocking it with air, but I want to know (estimate) how far i cud get with air and what is the weak point on the board when clocking a Quad? Im clocking a E6850 at 3.6Ghz now with a AC7 Pro and load temps are 60C (Cpu), with bout 42C on the board.
If I could get a Q6600 at 3Ghz or maybe slightly higher that would be ideal, I wud be using a TR 120-Extreme to cool it. Annndd then i will rule at Folding muahaha:mrgreen:

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Clunk I cant remember cos it was awhile back, but did the HR-09's fit on the P5K, or was it with the P5B that you needed the clamp?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Does anyone knows why temperatures on cores differes for about 5-6C?
Under 100%load after 2 hours of prime testing coretemp shows 61,61,67,67.
Maybe a cooler isn't placed well or it's about different load on cores - the hottest ones are loaded more?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Its normal :)
If you have a cooler with screw/bolt fixings, you can get them more even. Click the Quad core thread on my sig and look at the first post :)

Ok, thanks, Clunk!
By the way i don't know if you where talking about it. It's transaction booster. It really encreases RAM spead. I enabled it and set ratio to 0 and memory reading spead was 8900mb\s. But with ratio = 1 it raised for about 300mb\s. As well as disabeld and ratio = 3 settings lowered readings to 7000mb\s (but i guess stability was encreased). May be it'll help some one..

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
it's been discussed in the P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread
this iarticle is also useful on Asus P5K Deluxe Mainboard: Second Encounter
Transaction booster @1 works for me on my E6600 with bios 0311(but not on later bios which are faster), but i don't think i've seen any quads working with it.
It is a decent tweak if you can get away with it:lol:
luck:)

no worries.
Dram Static Read Control gives an even bigger boost than Transaction booster, but you may find it less stable.(mentioned at bottom of the page in the x-bit article.)

Damn, just tried Transaction Booster @0= BSOD :ill:
Dram Static Read Control I enabled= BSOD :baby:
Well I had to try:D

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Naturally, as you do:lol:
In fairness as i said earlier if your running a later version than 0311 with transaction booster on Auto will give the same performance as 0311 with it enabled.

I just have them both disabled now, not worth it as my E6850 is running smooth @ 3.6ghz, and I don't want to tempt fate. Though I will try a higher Fsb as soon as I get my PC8500 Ram and Scythe Mine :) So far this board has been rock solid
Edit* I meant to say that Dram Static Control is on Auto now, but doesn't that mean its off because with it enabled I get BSOD
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Yep auto means it's off. Transaction booster is more flexible, transaction booster on disablked i think also lets you put in integer values. This supposedly downclocks giving better stability, though i must admit i've not really tried it:lol:
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Quote:
The thing is that if the DRAM Static Read Control parameter is set to Auto, the mainboard changes its value at this frequency. That is why the performance drops, which is erroneously considered to be caused by Strap changing. To eliminate this unpleasant effect, you should set DRAM Static Read Control to Enabled in the BIOS Setup.
Taken from that Xbit Labs review. As much as I try and understand and learn about strap changes etc I can never get my head around it, but as far as I know from Clunk and that review is that the P5K doesn't suffer from strap changes, proven by the graph on X-bit. So what are they talking about and are they saying you need to have DSRC enabled otherwise you get a BIG or small difference in performance?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
sorry yep lookinhg back on my notes on my various settings DSRC has been set mainly to Disabled rather than Auto.
I find the eastiest way to think about straps is like the gearbox on a car.
Quote:
200, 266 and 333MHz
are like the gear ratios between CPU & memory. So you have 1:1 (low Gear:D) to higher gears like 4:5 2:3 etc.,
As stated the p5k is a smoother gearbox than say the p5B
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
So basically it has more ratios (gears) and a wider variety then lets say the P5B?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
A little tip: make sure you use the latest RAID drivers (intel) for this board - i got a BSOD the t'other day without 'em whilst playing bioshock.
Still haven't solved the popping/crackling with an X-FI with this board (sadly) tho (in Vista, it's not too bad in XP).

@dangel yep a lot seem to be having issues with p35/vista & raid.

sorry - the bsod was in xp not vista to be clear (and both are rock solid with the intel raid update)

Oh man...
Clunk, I'm still in "reboot-hell" here.
Uninstalled the raid and now I am on a single drive spanked up with x32 WinXP.
I followed your advice,
ripped out all mem caps,
then tried one set in the black slots - i get spontaneous reboot
ripped that pair out and threw in the other pair - i got spontaneous reboot...
I have sat for DAYS with the digicam in order to catch the blue screen message that flips by on a brink of a second - AND I COUGHT THOSE BASTARDS!!!
Here are the two different bsod error messages that briefly blinks by before the reboot
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...BOOT_00002.jpg
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...BOOT_00001.jpg
I understand the tdi.sys has something to do with the memory and thus indicating either the memory caps or the processors lcache OR the mobo itself...
I virus checked the tdi.sys and my entire C: deep anal-izys style but nada nothing resulting in a report that my C: is cleaner than a babys diper...
As it reboots with BOTH pairs of memory that should exclude them out of the equation, right?
Wich leaves the mobo and the CPU?
Help Clunk, how should I interprete this and what actions should I take now???
Thanks again master for your priceless help!!!

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

I hate that this is on by default.

Hi mad_scot_99,
My rig takes Memtest86 1.7 (and 3.3 also) the ENTIRE frikkin night on BOTH the default test that starts with the floppydisk, AND test 5 that Clunk kindly helpfully oriented me to.
I can run Prime95 the entire night with NO problem whatsoever.
About drives, I have installed
1/ Raid 0 on two Seagate sata 16mb 300gb drives,
2/ Raid 0 on two Western Digital 16mb Sata 320gb drives,
3/ WinXP on single Seagate Drive
4/ WinXP on single Western Digital Drive
5/... check out the link above for more details
The frikkin crashes forced me to install windows some 20-25 times
When 1/ crashed it took a completely DIFFERENT drive down, a SATA 250gb Seagate drive (embarrisingly enough a Sata "1" drive)
Everything looks kinda good until I do something crazy like open a second explorer or open the calculator...
Shutting down a game scares the crap outta the reboot twitch...
Closing the DVD-tray 15% of the times causes reboots
No mind if it is running on stock default bios settings nor if it is oc...
And most important of all,
I have TWO kits of DDR2 mem caps,
my rig reboots with BOTH sets individually mounted...
I cannot beleive that both pairs is feucked, or is it plausible???
Somebody plz hand me a paperknife - I need to commit harakiri or seppuku or whatever...
Oh yeah, thanks for still having patience suggesting things to do...
I think I will have to rma this frikkin board, either the board or the CPU...
it could be the L cache or something
Clunk, I have tried installing Windows with several different graphic cards so I hope I dont had that error you kindly hinted me to,
I dont know exactly how to make those fixes *im a noob you know*
but I will see if I can get some help and make an attempt at it...
I should get a work at a sweatshop and put in all the hrs I put into fault searching this darn P5K "Decrapxe" mobo instead - and buy another brand mobo and see if it differences...

Have you managed to get a pair of modules to run for 3 hours or so yet ??

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Sry Supershanks,
I edited my post, in my late night dizzyness I wrote Prime95 on both rows.
I will give it a new try in my morning dizzyness... =)
I did Memtest 86 tests x 10 times with both 1.7 AND 3.3,
I also set the test to run all night on 1.7 in both default mode and test five by pressing "C -> 2 -> 5 -> Selecting test no#5"
Memtest86 reported Zero ("0") Errors
With an entire night I talk about 8-10hrs
I tried to run Orthos but It fails completely to initiate a second instance, it bugs out so that I cannot get it started.
And Prime 95 I have used the latest version I found, (is it named 25.4?) wich I have run in cahoot with Cpu-Z, CoreTemp 0.95, (Also with TAT despite the flaw with correct temps as I was curious to see if it would fluctuate differently than Coretemp) and Windows Task Manager to keep an eye that four cores was at 100 percent stress.
I have run Prime 95 through at least 3 nights without an error halt on any core.
One time it rebooted when I did a 3 hour daily run of Prime95 that reported flawless, I pressed stop O.K. but when I "X":d down the Prime95 window my rig spontaneously rebooted. *that felt swell*
On the other hand my rig HAS rebooted with Prime95 running shorter daily tests, a couple of times when I inserted the optical dvd rom tray, and again a couple of times when I had opened internet explorer and got so far that i either pressed CTRL+T in order to open a new tab OR shut down an open tab. (Always with several tabs open)
I DID have errors reported in Prime95 when I tried out different OC settings, but that should be considered normal until you find your limit of stable OC.
There should be some of my earlier posts with screenshots from these occations in this thread.
I never had an error reported in Memtest 1.7 or 3.3 (No matter what test run, I tried more than no#5 specificallly specified.)
I hope I did not make any writing errors, it kinda takes 95% of my brainpowerattention just to make myself understood in english mate =)
Plz check the previous post, I edited the mistake of writing Prime twice.
As you see now Supershanks I have run Memtest more than 3 hrs.
Are there any more tests I can/should do that would help me?
Thanks for any input you can contribute mate,
/Silverbullit *I am seriously considering trying to rma this mobo to my internet dealer trying to get another brand mobo like Abit or something else*

I don't know if any one's mentioned it , but if your memory is ok , the symptoms you have may be caused by your cpu. I had similar problems when i 1st got my e6600 with my commando board. Tested the hell outt of memory, swapped mobo(rma) still getting issues. Ended up rmaing the cpu , put the new one in perfect. It's pretty rare , think the guy in scan said i was only the 2nd he knew of, but it can happen.

have did a lot of techy work whilst i was deciding on a second career and have seen dodgy cpu's cause this before but pass EVERY test known to man. although its always a toss up between CPU and mobo.

Yep it's pretty hard to diagnose, took a good while with mine, eliminating other parts. I was able to show successfull memory tests & the fact that it was a new (replacement mobo) which put suspicion onto the cpu.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hey Clunk,
All ok now, you're right i think the 1600Mhz is a power saving feature. (hehe)
If this is the case, wouldn't it be good to leave it on even after overclocking that way, it stays at 1600MHz and when it loads it then goes to 3000 Mhz or the overclocked setting. This helps save power.
I'm guessing this would be a good idea. Is it a must to disable it when overclocking?
Also, a more important note about ram.
I'm using OCZ reaper 8500 5-5-5-15. I bought 4 sticks, but something tells me that using only 2GB is the better bet. Why is this the case? Stability? I'm planning to overclock my ram as well.
I'm not sure if you've heard of a program called Ram Idle LE. I use it to monitor my ram and how it drains etc, good little program. I realised that when I put 4GB of ram and overclock it, the program doesn't recognize all 4GB, worst still, the program doesn't even work with 4GB.
So, would you say that a system is more stable with 2GB of overclocked ram? (Using Win XP 32)
I heard that only windows X64 can recognize 4Gb of ram.
Do you happen to know why its better to use 2GB, and is using 2GB overclocked more stable and effective, compared to 4GB of overclocked ram which could be useless as far as performance goes. I'm kinda confused with this because I bought 4GB of this very expensive ram for overclocking and I think using them all together is doing my pc no good. I do CAD work so it does drain ram but never to the point of zero, usuall 2GB does just the trick. I'm looking at a powerful computer and if using just 2GB overclocked is better let me know.
Your advice on this. :)
Oh, one last thing, I heard that quad cores run much hotter than dual cores, so with this in mind, anything under 70 degrees is considered a good stable temperature for quads. Is this right? If that's the case would that be a good bench mark for overclockers in the sense that you overclock it until it hits the max temp.
Sorry, last last one, the P5K-E says its 1333 or something, what does this mean because it seems that BIOS is saying its running only at 1066, how i do i get it to run at 1333?
thanks!! :)

When you have 4 sticks in place, it puts extra strain on the Northbridge when you overclock, and that can affect how high you can go.

If that's the case would that be a good bench mark for overclockers in the sense that you overclock it until it hits the max temp. Depends on the cooler, the fans, the case, the room temps, Vcore, etc - if you have a cold room, great cooling, good airflow etc, then your temps will be better than someone in a hot room with poor airflow, poor cooling etc. Its really impossible to give a definitive answer. Sorry I cant be of more help.
Sorry, last last one, the P5K-E says its 1333 or something, what does this mean because it seems that BIOS is saying its running only at 1066, how i do i get it to run at 1333? You really need to read the guide, all of this stuff is in there. The 1333FSB refers to the FSB quad pumped, so 4 x 333=? YES! :D So, it basically just means that it supports 333/1333FSB CPUs. :)
thanks!! :)

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Newbie here after seeing this.
Have decided to build myself a system at the weekend using the P5KC mobo, but got a nasty feeling I may end up regretting choosing the ASUS.
CPU: E6850 3GHZ 1333FSB
Memory: 4x1GB OCZ PC2 9200 Reaper 1150MHz - 5-5-5-18 - 2.3v
Cooler: Antec Freezer Pro 7 with Artic Silver 5 Paste
Case: NZXT Hush
Am very worried about the RAM settings, even though Clunk suggests using the yellow slots is only a problem with 2x1GB. Loads of people having stability problems at anything above 800 let alone 1150.
In an ideal world I'd like to get a 1206 memory clock with a CPU overclock of 3.6ghz, but I suspect I'd need to unlink them both (can you say Nvidia board?)

I recommend using the black slots on the P5K deluxe for 2x1GiB. I would think that the P5KC is a bit different because of the DDR3 slots.
One thing I'm fairly sure of, is that 1200Mhz isnt easily achievable, but not impossible with 4x1GiB. I think Ive had 1250Mhz stable, but it wasnt practical due to the extra voltage needed.
In an ideal world, we would all like an overclock like that, but in reality, it isnt going to happen for most people for 24/7 use. :)

Hello from Australia boys:)
I'm having trouble with overclocking my Q6600 (B3)
running on what this guide suggests running at 3ghz on the first stage of overclocking.. but having issues with motherboard temps suddenly spiking to (256c) to be exact and sometimes vcore dropping.. down to 0.56 volts
I'm using cpu-z, everest home, speedfan and core temp.. to take readings..
any idea's on what the cause might be??
thanks

Welcome to Hexus :)
Ok, firstly the motherboard temps, can you just confirm where you are seeing these temps, and what you are doing when it happens please? A screenshot would be helpful :)
You will need 5 posts to be able to post links though, so just post what you can.
What PSU is that?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I’ve had absolutely no luck with my P5KC, most of the problems are memory related. Can’t get stability at the 1150mhz rated speed of the Reaper 9200 (5-5-5-18 2.3v) even using the two black slots.

What does memtest say? And are you actively cooling the RAM?

well its was actually asus probe II that gave me both readings... under full load @ 3ghz using 4 instances of prime95.. i have since d/l everest home and speedfan... but.. i still have AUX temp of over 120c... would this contribute to mb temps??

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Hi Clunk,
One question. I've overclocked my OCZ reaper 8500 to 1066Mhz. One of those things I find strange is that the asus P5k says its 'native' 1066Mhz for ram, what does this mean? because my ram IS 1066MHz but when i install it, cpu z still reads 800mHz, so i overclock it to 1066 and the 'SPD' tab on CPU-Z says "Max Bandwidth PC2-6400 (400Mhz) , what does this really account for? Shouldn't it read PC2-8500 (533Mhz), ?
Any advice on this would be great because my ram is now at 1066 and asus p5k is supposedly 'native' (not sure what this means) and i was hoping to stretch it to maybe higher.
thanks so much!!

Many thanks for this guide. I'm moving over from a 2.75 gig opty165 and haven't used an intel chip since my 866 p3 so this was an ideal guide .I now have my e6750 running 3.2gig idle temps 20c dual orthos load temps peak @ 40c ambient 20c , on auto vcore, using a freezer 7 and geil pc2-6400 low latency on a plain p5k
how much further do you think this will go on auto vcore?
and what could be estimated as the the full potential of this setup i.e whats the max you think i'll get off this setup?
ps hw do i take a screen shot of orthos cpu-z etc
:):)

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
should it worry me that under load my mobo reports 40c on asus probrII

No, thats fine, but if you are worried, just have a search in this thread, or the p5k thread for a pic of the motherboard sensor, and blow a fan over that area.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
hey Clunk,
Read your guides both on ram and overclocking, so if i understand correctly, my SPD tab on CPU-Z is basically correct when it reports PC2-6400 (400Mhz). Even though i've set my timings right (5-5-5-15) and voltage at 2.35v. Then overclocked it, by upping the ram frequency, so basically technically its overclocked already done, but SPD will still report it as PC2-6400, is this right? Just to confirm, I'm guessing there's no way to change the Max bandwidth to PC2-8500.
Thanks!:angst:

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Has anybody tried the 0503 beta bios for the P5K Deluxe, are there any performance benefits?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
have been running it for a few days. Haven't had chance to do any real benches.
Not seen much in here either Asus P5K Deluxe - Intel P35 Bearlake + E6600 B1 / Q6600 B3 release seems pretty underwhelming, generally see a few benches.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Since P5K premium uses DDR2 does it affect the ram settings or I should be fine with the first post settings?
Also, I haven't overclocked my system yet and I noticed the Mobo temp hits 45-50, should I add the little fans on the heatsinks that I got with my mobo?
My system info is as follows:
CPU: Q6600 G0
Mobo: Asus P5K Premium
Ram: 4GB dual shared OCZ Gold
Vid: X800XL Water cooled (soon to be upgraded to Geforce 8800 Ultra water cooled)
Cooling: Zalman Reserator 1 (water tank removed internal pump) + SWIFTECH MCW50 VGA + Zalman ZM-WB2 CPU Block + Swiftech MCR320 with 3 X 120mm quiet fans + Swiftech MCP655 pump

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.
If you are asking if you should manually set the RAM timings and voltages, then the answer is a definite YES :)
You can use the little fans that come withy the motherboard, but that isnt the area that gives you your motherboard temp.
There is a motherboard temp sensor on the P5K.
http://eservice.asus.com.tw/eService...8E15FB9F90.JPG
It is in an unfortunate place, as it gets residual heat from the CPU and mosfet areas, so blowing a fan over it, will give you more accurate temps, but its nothing to worry about.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Now I got the FSB to 400 with cpu voltage at 1.4625 I believe. I had the PC run at temp of 45 avg per core.
Now after I updated my WinXP 64bit the PC boots into windows but then when I place the cursor onto the toolbar it is represented as an hourglass icon as if the PC is thinking. This longs for several minutes...I am able to move the mouse and press the CapLock (light goes ON/OFF) but I am not able to click on anything or get the Start menu to show.
Is it a software issue or ram?
It does the same thing once I bring back the settings in BIOS to default.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Try putting some voltage on your vdimm your still at stock voltage.
Just try upping it a notch at a time until you get some stability using orthos.
luck:)
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
ok. I just changed that.
the thing is, if i turn it off and turn on immediately, it can start. sometimes if I turn if off for 1 or 2 hours, then when i turn power on, it's like this.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
THe symtoms you describe are those of a failed oc as you experienced with the
Quote:
'overclock failed'
message. A failing oc can take on a variety of smptoms , of which you have your share.
As i said earlier that's to be expected running 9x400fsb at stock vcore. Given that the steps in vcore are 0.0125v you may need to increase it a good few steps before the symptoms go away. Of course increasing vcore will also impact your temps so keep an eye on them as well.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
i tried everything. it still wont turn on. i have to push reset button few times until in come on, and now it less frequently say 'overclock failed', or not every time it turn on. but it just wont turn on when i push power on.
anybody have the same problem?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Sounds like duff RAM to me.
Take out one of the sticks and test with memtest v1.70 test 5, then try that same stick in all the slots, doing the same test, then do the same with your other stick/s.
You may find that you have one dying/dead stick of RAM.
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
RAM is brand new, 2 sticks, showing 2GB in windows and BIOS.

-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

DRAM voltage is set to auto. I tried 2.20V, did not help.

You are also on an old bios, go here and grab a later one - 0503 should do it.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Bios 0404 gives perhaps the best performance, but is very unforgiving. Your probably far netter using 0311 & twaeking. I've had totally stable 12hr orthos stable in 0311 but the same setting fail in 0404.
0503 seems a little better than 0404 but to be honest, i try them all but end up back with 0311

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I had the exact same problem as yourself on my p5k deluxe and posted in this thread a long time ago. Sometimes the system would boot but no display output. Sometimes I would get an OCing failed message even though I was running everything at stock.
Flash with the following BIOS, BIOS 0123 which was the first BIOS released for the p5k deluxe (came on the CDs with the first batch on P%K Dlx's:
http://www.sitalchauhan.pwp.blueyond...Other/0123.zip
With this BIOS flashed your system will boot up perfect every time and the problems will completely disappear.
What I did was flashed to this BIOS 0123 with all default bios settings, then set all my settings and voltages manually in the BIOS and had my ram in the black slots. Then flashed the BIOS to the latest with all bios settings manually set, and then everything worked perfect on the new bios version. I can now even overclock everything without any problems.
However, for some people no matter what, only BIOS 0123 would work and all other would have the same problems. You can either just stay on 0123 until they possible find a solution, or RMA your board. People with this exact problem have RMAed their board and their replacement's have worked perfect...
Let me know how you get on

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
will 0311 support quad core?
are you having the same problem?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
does bios 0123 support quad core?
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I am almost certain 0123 supports Quad core because the P5K deluxe supported quad core on release and 0123 was the release BIOS.
I was experiencing the excat same problem as you but solved it by doing as I said.
Here was my post in this thread a long while ago:
http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...87#post1135487
And here are 2 other threads that helped me get around the problem aswell:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread....1629&t=1200834
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=147927
I bet your system will work perfect in all of the latest BIOSes when running just 1 stick of ram as that happened with me aswell, but as soon as i put the 2nd stick in i would get problems. But both sticks were 15hours memtest perfect!
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
You might also find you can boot ok with a single ram module in, change bios settings then check it fires up ok & add back 2nd module.
I've had "no Display" a number of times , it appears to be a memory failure, although the modules are ok. The above has sorted me. Last occasion was tonight , was probably the worst occasion. Ended up pulling out battery & clearing cmos.
Finnaly started with single module, interestingly i pushed the module slightly from the side as it powered up, not sure if it was coincidence.
My experiences are pretty similar to the final post

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
I'm think that the shipping bios doesnt support the G0 stepping quad. If, after a CMOS clear, it still isnt working, and you have already done what we said (memtest etc), then you will either need to borrow an older 775 CPU and flash to the later bios, or RMA the board. If you RMA to the retailer that you bought it from, they might refuse it and tell you to send it directly to Asus.
-
Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On
Try:-
1) Remove power lead
2) Remove battery & move cmos jumper to clear position. Leave for 5~10 minutes, then replace & reset jumpoer
3) have 1 ram module only in black slot, nearest CPU.
4) plug in power lead & try booting. You should hopefully see the overclocking failed message. choose [f2] to load defaults.
If you don't get it to power up, repeat using other memory module.
luck:)

What settings were you using in bios, did you lload bios default??
Why use yellow saockets when every man & his dog says black.
When you say 2nd socket is that closest to or furthest from the cpu.

im using default setting in bios with bios 0123. i got black screen after system turn off and turn back on after 10 minutes. i put 1 stick ram in first black slot, the one close to cpu, it boot up with good, no black screen or overclock failed. but i had black screen with same 1 stick ram on same black slot.
there must be problem with all the yellow slots. :juggle:
