Well, as I say, 3.6Ghz is a good overclock, and you wont see much difference in everyday programs if you went up a bit more anyway.

Temps look fine to me. You can try Coretemp with vista x64, click on the troubleshooting link in my sig, I think its the last one in the list.

Assuming you have a sensible amount of cooling through the case, have you thought to check that the Zalman is contacting the the CPU fully?

Take it off and look at the Thermal Paste and see if it has uniform contact....it may well not have.

Then you need to find out why, possibly lap your heat sink (polish it till its flat) and also, don't use loads of Thermal paste that will make it worse.

In your experience, in a water cooling setup how much of a difference does having 3x120mm fans blowing on a radiator have on cpu temperatures? Reason I ask is (at idle) I disconnected the fans and the temperatures remained exactly the same. Not tried it at load as i'm heavilly overclocked (well to 3.25GHz)...

    A lot.

Your temps might stay like that for a while, but they will creep up, and if you put the CPU under load, it will shoot up, and keep going until the thermal cutoff kicks in.

Some rads perform better with high cfm/speed fans, and some perform well with low cfm/speed fans.

    Cool (No pun intended!)

I'm still testing my overclock potential and can get it up to 3.4GHz, but would you be happy/comfortable/worried if the temperatures are 70-70-68-68 with 100% load on each core (measured with coretemp, stressed with 4xSP2004 on stress cpu test)

Just to let you know that I am running my e6600 at 3.30GHz at 1.45V. My idle temps are 31 degrees, and load 67 degrees (using TAT to stress the cpu, coretemp to measure temps) on air using a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme. I have been running this overclock 24/7 and am fully stable with no problems whatsoever. I think 70 degrees is the upper limit to what you should be running 24/7. But I am having no problems running at my temps. I would only really be worried if my temps went above 70 degrees.

This is my first OC and I am following Clunk’s excellent Guide. Just beginning to OC my E6850 to 3.8GHz. However, please comment on my screenshot:

    [Sorry. Cannot post URLs yet].

    img486.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tempjh7.jpg

[1.4625 Vcore in BIOS, RAM 2.05V, all other voltages AUTO]

As you can see, anywhere after 2-8 hrs of stable Orthos, my CPU temp suddenly spikes to nearly 100C (even hit 120C) [Probe II Log]. The temperature never drops much afterwards, even if Orthos stopped (as the screenshot shows) Yet, Cores are usually around 50C during Orthos runs (TAT, CpuFAN, Coretemp .95, Everest - all agree).

    1. What’s going on?

    2. What software for temp monitoring should I use? [After restart, my CPU temp is back to 30-40c with all the software].

    3. Somehow my CPU temp is always higher than my Core Temps? Is this normal?

    4. Do you consider this ok for 24/7 use? [Core Temps 48-51 under load, CPU temp 65 until it suddenly spikes].

    5. If I give the chip more Vcore (like 1.48 or even 1.50), is the risk of OC limited to the chip? OR is it likely that I may damage MB, Ram, Video Card?

    6. Does the Vcore requirement differ from 9 x 422FSB v. 8 x 475FSB?

    Looking forward to your advice!
