    [Sorry. Cannot post URLs yet].

    img486.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tempjh7.jpg

[1.4625 Vcore in BIOS, RAM 2.05V, all other voltages AUTO]

As you can see, anywhere after 2-8 hrs of stable Orthos, my CPU temp suddenly spikes to nearly 100C (even hit 120C) [Probe II Log]. The temperature never drops much afterwards, even if Orthos stopped (as the screenshot shows) Yet, Cores are usually around 50C during Orthos runs (TAT, CpuFAN, Coretemp .95, Everest - all agree).

    1. What’s going on? There has been another person with a similar issue, and he had the same chip and motherboard I think. It could just be that the board needs a bios update. It is the core temps that you need to keep an eye on, and they look strangely low, is it very cold in your room?

    2. What software for temp monitoring should I use? [After restart, my CPU temp is back to 30-40c with all the software]. Its just a case of trying the various different ones and seeing which you prefer. Speedfan can read temps 15c lower than they actually are. I prefer Coretemp if it will run on your O/S

    3. Somehow my CPU temp is always higher than my Core Temps? Is this normal? It seems to vary from board to board and CPU to CPU. Is there an excessive amount of hot air coming out of the back of the case?

    4. Do you consider this ok for 24/7 use? [Core Temps 48-51 under load, CPU temp 65 until it suddenly spikes]. Depends if it is accurate or not.

    5. If I give the chip more Vcore (like 1.48 or even 1.50), is the risk of OC limited to the chip? OR is it likely that I may damage MB, Ram, Video Card? There is always a risk of damage with anything over stock voltage.

    6. Does the Vcore requirement differ from 9 x 422FSB v. 8 x 475FSB? Try it and see. I had an E6600 that required a lot more voltage to do that, but my quad doesnt.

    Looking forward to your advice!

Dont forget youll need mega cooling as well if you want to overclock it

Yeah.. I wonder if my asetek kit is up to job? I'm cooling the 8800 and the cpu only with a twin rad..

is it a twin 120? if so it'll be insufficient for cooling both the 8800 and an overclocked quad. if you're overclocking the 8800, put it on the 120.2 and get another pa120.2 for the cpu, or if you're running chipset+fets, a pa120.3

And dont forget youll need a different CPU block as well. The cooling area on the single/dual core blocks is much smaller. You can still use them, but you wont be getting the best out of it.

As Steve says, a 120.2 probably wont cut it for an overclocked quad and an 8800 (GTX is it?)

Overclocked quad = anything up to 250w of heat (say 3600 with 1.6v ish for arguments sake)
    Overclocked GTX = Around 200w.

So, assuming that you arent going to be cooling the chipset, thats 450w of heat you need to get rid of, and a 120.2 isnt going to do that, even with huge cfm fans.

I did look at the cpu and the contact is pretty good the temp vary from 1 or 2 celcius from each other especially the third core, the rest post the same temp. I think it is because of the temp out side is around 32 something and my room is probable more since it is not air conditioned. Also having a vcore which lower than 1.325 suppose to be cooler?

wow, great guide chunk ! It helped me overclock my E6750 C2D to 3.6ghz on the stock cooler ! wow :O

on a side note, I have a question. I got 2 stick of 1gb memory PC-8500 (mushkin) and my motherboard won't run them at 1066mhz on the channel A1 and B1, the board won't even post.
If I try to give it more voltage, the HDD failed to load and my windows is corrupted :S

BUT, I can run the stick with no problems at full speed (1066) with vdimm to auto in channel A2 and B2.

    is it normal ?

If I remember, the first pair of slots you mention, are the YELLOW slots (which is what the manual suggests you put them in) and what I have mine in.

If you use A2 and B2 which I would think are the Black slots, Clunk and many others will tell you that the Black slots are the ones to use when Overclocking your RAM.

    I will swap mine soon!

Yes, black slots for 2x1GB on the P5K boards.

Make sure you have correctly entered the RAM voltage and timings.

You could also have a bad stick of RAM, so it is worth testing with memtest v1.70, test 5 for at least an hour on each stick individually, and also do the test with each stick in all the different slots.

Here are some images of the EK blocks on the P5K. Please note that the Southbridge needs modifying to fit around two near by capacitors.

Still not up and running due to the post men being on strike again grrr. Awaiting some more parts for my build.
