Yeah thats me, really want to start tying up my PC343B dual water loop build, just waiting on custom cut laser parts and stuff. Should have got a lot last week, but because of Royal Fail and the stupid CWU, I have not.

sorry to h/j your thread again clunk but I did the tests you mentionned and I'll need a little help to figure out if it's my memory or my board that is defected ..

all the test were done with memtest 1.7.

at 800 mhz, both stick of memory passed all tests in all slots in single and dual channel mode.

    for 1066mhz,
stick #1 (single channel) : slot A1 post, but I get 1000000 errors in test #5
stick #1 (single channel) : slot A2 post, all tests ok.
    stick #1 (single channel) : slot B1 don,t post.
stick #1 (single channel) : slot B2 post, but 122 errors in test #5

    stick #2 (single channel) : slot A1 don't post
stick #2 (single channel) : slot A2 post, all tests ok.
    stick #2 (single channel) : slot B1 don,t post.
stick #2 (single channel) : slot B2 post, all tests ok.

The best I can run my memory in slot A1 and B1 without error is 900 mhz.

I tried to set the vdimm manualy, to relaxed the timing, but it didn't helped. Now my question is, if the memory is defected, why it's working correctly in channel 2 ? But if it's the board, why at 800mhz everything is ok ?

Thanks everyone for all the input, your help is very appreciate.

Can you just confirm that you set the memory voltage (VDIMM) manually?

all the results were with vdim at auto.

I tried the slot/ram problems with vdimm to 2.2-2.3 but it didn't helped. I was getting the same results.

The best I could get in slot A1 and B1 was 900mhz on my 1066mhz rated DDR2. From what I understand, it could be a chipset limitation because asus says they officialy support up to DDR2 800 and throught O/C, they support up to 1066mhz ..

    I'm confused a lot :S

I tried the slot/ram problems with vdimm to 2.2-2.3 but it didn't helped. I was getting the same results. Try the tests again, but with the voltage set manually. Do a test first with the RAM in both the black slots.

On a side note, CPUZ is reporting this,

    Max bandwidth PC2-6400 (400mhz)
but in the timing table, it says 533mhz, 5-5-4-12 Click on the troubleshooting guide in my sig and read number 10.

Does this mean that from the manufacturer, the memory is o/c ?

    I'm confused a lot :S

    thanks for the quick answers.

Ok about CPUZ and my ram.

I tried to set vdimm to what my ram was rated, 2.2-2.3 but it just didn't help for the yellow slot.
The black one are working perfectly (even at auto), but the yellow are just not working ..

    how is it possible ?

I tried to relax the timing, I tried 1 stick at a time. The computer won't even post

btw I have the P5KC board, maybe that's why :S

OK, did you read the troubleshooting guide thing? That explains about it really being PC2-6400.

The yellow slots do cause errors, you should only use the black when you are using 2x1GB.

You will find that if you were to add another 2x1GB to the yellow slots as well, they would work fine. Its just a quirk.

So, to recap, dont use the yellow slots.

    thanks clunk,

yes I read the troubleshooting guide and I understand about the ram being PC2-6400.

my main fear was if I wanted to add another 2x1gb PC2-8500 to the yellow one they wouldn't work as expected.

I'll let the ram in the black slot since they are working good in them.

    Thanks for your help.

while I'm at it, I thought of something last night. At first, my PC2-8500 was working in the yellow slot, before I did the bios update.

I did it, because I wasn't able to o/c my cpu and thought it was the bios, but it was just the intel thing in the bios :S (my bad)

now if I try to downgrade to the original, the Asus EZ-Flash won't let me .. any other way I could do that ? (I searched, but found nothing, even on google :S)

    Thanks for your time

Thats strange, I managed to downgrade my BIOS without any problem using EZ-Flash. I just put the older bios onto my usb stick, pressed Alt+F2 on boot to load the Asus BIOS flashing program, and downgraded my BIOS without any issues.

    I have questions!

How do I change the RAM voltage on a P5K-e?

My memory timings are slightly wrong, am I safe to just switch it to manual and set them myself, or do I need to make any other modifications?

The Asus utility reports motherboard temps of 40-45c. That seems high. Should I be worried?

The P5K-E has the same bios as the PK5 so just adjust the dram voltage set to manual and just the timings and use memtest just to be sure that the ram is able to run at those timings. Use coretemp to measure your cpu temps because its more accurate.

Why are you so intent on using the yellow slots?

They arent stable for 2x1GB use...still
