    Quick query..

What is the max cpu voltage and cpu temp u'd consider safe for 24/7 usuage?

I ask as I currently have my Q6600 system priming with:

    450 x 8 = 3.6ghz
vcore @ 1.4875 in bios, showing as 1.44 in pc probe
and temp is hanging ~ 61c

As always, anything above the stock voltage has the potential to kill or damage your CPU.

You need to find a compromise between temps/performance that you are happy with, and weigh up if any extra speed is worth the extra heat.

Those temps look fine to me.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

Today I got my Dominator Ram Cooler,

    Popped in my 2 additional Mushkins - making it 4 x 1GB (XP2-8500)

My rig starts rebooting like it has Cerebral Paresis...

I rip out that Plextor Sata DVD-Drive,
rebooting calms down - maybe even dissappears...

I put in a Promise TX4 Sata Controller Card,
    the bastard reboots.... SPONTANEOUSLY!
    *never know when or why*

    Next surprise...

    I raise memory to 2,25V,
divider 1067 (it is 8500 memory)

Raise core from 1,2875V to 1,325V

    Prime failure...

Fibbling with the core voltage - no change

    Set down divider to ddr800,

and it is now running Prime95 for 20mins without failure.

    The ram is specified 2,2 - 2,35V

Would you go for those high voltages and 1067 divider Clunk?

And the reboot issue is giving me the creeps - what would you do bout this in my shoes Clunk?

    /Silverbullit

Another thing, does higher fsb with the same speed, dvs
    333 x 9 = 3000 same temp?
    375 x 8 = 3000 same temp?
    430 x 7 = 3000 same temp?

Or is it hot, hotter and melting? (in that order)

Mixing the types of RAM isnt ideal.

Will it do a prime run at 266/533?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

    Hi Clunk,

Well master it is not a mix of ram, I have 4 sticks of Mushkin XP2-8500, 1GB each.

Im priming them as we speak at 385 x 8, I had a failure at 410 after 14mins - so I'm backing off.
Highest temp in TAT is reach at some passes at 62...
But it seems a bad compromise if I cant get the memory to more than 770ddr (cpu 3080)

I think ill check out what I can do with lower multiplier...

The sata dvdrom problem still freaks me out bigasstime... ***what should I do***

Oops sorry, I read that as you had added some Domintators...missed the bit that said "cooler"

I should have mine back up and running tomorrow, so I'll try your settings and see what happens.

Thing is, if your RAM is rated for up to 2.35v @ 1067Mhz, then thats probably what itll need.

Did you try the things I suggested for the SATA problem? Somebody mentioned changing the SATA ports to a different colour for the burner. See how that goes

    Hi Clunk,
    Thanx for your swift reply.
You are right, it must be the frikkin board has a bad allergy to my Sata Rom (Plextor)
Removed it and... voila - no more reboots... how can this be???

Disablke the jmicron controller if you arent using any IDE devices, or any SATA devices on the jmicron controller, or any e-SATA devices.
I followed your advice and killed... disabled the JMicron Controller.
The sata hd:s on those 2 black connectors still show up o.k...

BTW, she has run steady now for close to an hour on 9 x 333 in prime95 with ddr800 divider and 4-4-4-10 timings on 2,2Volts...
But I am kinda dissapointed that the Rams dont want hit spec stock speed 1067 even on 1,35V
(Yep I tried max voltages now, Prime freaks out bigass)

This would kinda kill the purpose of having a pc =) altough I understand I must find the culprit here...When you turn off legacy USB, you wont be able to boot from your USB devices, or lets say that you have a USB keyboard and mouse, they may not work until windows has loaded the driver. It does depend on the keyboard as well. My logitech works fine in the bios, but when I get to the dual boot screen for vista/xp, I cant choose anything because the keyboard doesnt work, that is with legacy USB disabled, although I havent needed to do that much on this board.

I am a bit daft, wich chipset drivers do I download for P5K Deluxe? *blushing*

Just the ones to suit your operating system. They come in a package and it will install only what you need, so click that link, choose your o/s, and then it will give you a choice of the format, so you can grab it in zip file format, or an exe installer...thats up to you

Your suggestion about latest drivers sounds very sound,

but I dunno *im a noob master* wich ones to get.

    Is it these?

I think you may be on to something - it could be the raid 0 array that crashes - because it is allergic to my sata Rom (or to hard work or something)

But are those the correct drivers to download?

    Humbly,

Yes, those will work, as long as you get the correct ones for your operating system.

    Is it vista x64?

Edit: supershanks beat me to it

Why have 4GiB of RAM with XP x86?

Anyway, not sure about the sound thing, I havent ever used the onboard sound, but again, try the Asus site for the latest drivers for it.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

    Had a badass crash boys,

Could not save my raid array, nor windows in any of the ways I tried.
Windows came up with wallpaper and nada more (no icons, no nuthin)
She even refused to reinstall XP,
at one time (fifth try to reinstall XP) I got a error mess OC failure... ? ? ?

Very strange, memtest and prime95 reported my oc stable on my under the whole night stress run???

Got an XP install through now, but she is SLOWER than a retard attempting to rape a snail...

    Oh boy, she is slow.

The elementary conclusion would be that I fried something, but I refuse to beleive that - I think I kept plenty fat safety marginals.

Asus/Intels Matrix controller can go take a golden shower,
I broke apart the raid array and installed on a plain sata drive.

Got the basic p5k driverpack installed and updated microsofts crap.

I have a notion the sluggishness may have something to do with the previous raid array,
    I partitioned, formated and installed a 50gb C:
But the rest may lag away, something is wrong, and judging from the lousy sata support my first guess is that the "unpartitioned" former raid 0 array could have something to do with the extreme slowmotion I'm suffering through right now...

    About the Ram,
I got a nice price for the Mushkin Rams,
best price I found a 2 pack for was at memoryC in germany.
    just beneath 300 euro,
and when I got a chance to buy four rams (2 x 2 packs) for 350 euro I could not resist it.
(It wouldve costed me just as much to buy 2 x 1gb and 2 x 512mb)
and i figured it was optimal to purchase four of the exact same rams rather then bland sizes and brands =))

Jesus christ this board is giving me a around the clock job...

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

I dont think its the board yet.

For the moment, and just for testing purposes, do you have a single SATA drive that you could install XP on? (no raid). (oops, I see you already have done that).

And also, can you test each stick of RAM individually in each of the slots for a minimum of 1 hour each using memtest v1.70 Test 5. (I think this is the culprit).

You need to do a full test on each of your drives to rule out the chance of one of them being faulty.

    Hi Master,
    I did memtest 1,7 12hrs on 2,15V 1:1 dividers cpu at 333x9
    no failure...

The crash took down my entire frikkin candy archive...
My backups is reduced to less than one single puny .txt file - it is NADA.
*Dang, like a kick in the balls this is*

For weird reasons the drive shows up but totally inaccessible,
xp claims that the entire diskdrive is free space.

My pc definitely runs smoother without this drive, could this drive have been part of the problem?

Excluding this drive improved speed, but it was still slow.
When I formatted the previous Raid drives (second partition on C: AND the brother drive) it suddenly felt ALOT faster.

I need to install some more programs and further analyze this mess, (As I am nulled I need to findem first or search for manu****terers cds)
oh man I wish u was here in person with to little to do Clunk...
