    Overclocking Advice

Hi, ive been overclocking my E6300 quite snuggly at the moment but started to run into small problems so thought id ask here.

Ok i currently have my Corsair Ram 675 stuff 2.1v, but what fraction should i run at like 1/1 etc.
What voltage should i run my e6300 at if im aiming for 3ghz
I also seem to be having a heat issue with my Coolermaster Hyper tx (could be lack of airflow)
Any tips for overclocking on a P5N-E SLi? (as it seems to be a diffrent layout to most as its not just normal fsb numbers like 200 - 600 etc its like 1033 - 1600 etc)

    thanks.
    Spec in sig if needed.

btw if i put stock voltage on with speed i have no i get about 50 - 60 c on load and that is with side off, this doesnt seem right to me so any ideas?

Ive checked heatsink placement its fine, and the heatsink is definetly working when it gets hot the alum fins get really hot so the heatpipes are working, heatpaste is on fine nice and thin with zalman zmsg1, fan is on.

    Core2duo E6300 (2.450Ghz 1.25v) Coolermaster Hyper Tx
    Asus P5N-E Sli
    1 gig Corsair XMS2 (675 stuff at 2.1v)
    POV 8800 Gts (610, 950 158.19 drivers)
    Creative Audigy SE
    Coolermaster Cavalier 3

should be buying a xclio windtunnel soon hope the extra load of air will fix temps if not new cpu cooler time.

Have you adjusted your memory timings?

I know you would be better off with 800Mhz memory for the 1:1 ratio

best off looking at this thread

http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...ight=overclock - better still see Clunks post below

ok lol seems my temps are really out of wack and i think ive found why.

Gone back to core stock speed, stock voltage and getting about 45c idle, i check my heatsink it seems the base really isnt flat and one side is hardly touching the ihs, and because lapping really doesnt work for me i think its time for a new heatsink thats flat .

thx for the info on overclocking clunk and paul ill make sure i keep this thread bookmarked

I have the same mobo. Over 400FSB you need 1.56 on the northbridge. It's a bit much, but the options are a limited. Which causes the next problem. The northbridge and southbridge are woefully under cooled. I recommend something like http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=606456 should fit fine unless you have a huge CPU cooler. The Southbridge doesn't need anything that big but it needs something. If you don't want to spend any money, stick some fresh thermal goop on the Northbridge and stick some spare ramsinks on the south.

What BIOS do you have? Dont touch 0505 it causes the board to lock up totally. Mine almost got RMA'd because of it. I'm using the 0604 beta http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/BIO...604-Beta.shtml which disappeared from the asus site. Can't really tell you much more about it though, there were never any release notes etc.

Next is vdroop which is horrid on this board, expect at least 0.7 drop under load, more as you go above 1.5v. Which means you need to give the CPU more juice than you expect, but it works out well enough.

Your ram should be good for 800mhz, but it's not to important as the board has unlinked overclocking, just set it a a comfortable speed and focus on the FSB(Desired clockspeed divided by multi, then times by 4), just beware there are a few dead spots in the unlinked overclocking so when you hit a wall, try going slightly lower/higher on the RAM.

    very much thankyou great help.

Yes i have 0604 aswell i got it from the asus site a week back.
And for cooling at mo ive just had a 8cm fan aimed at my ram and northbridge seems to be doing a ok job but that nb gets bloody hot. Think i will probably some heatsinks for nb and sb when i order my case.

As for overclocking ive been using linked :O woops guess ill use unlinked now lol, but i need a better cpu cooler first as this one is abbismal tbh

would i be able to just keep a fan on my nb and put some new paste on instead of having to replace the cooler? as id like to keep off buying loads of things. strapped for cash now need to get a summer job tbh.

You should be ok, you wont get any stability problems til you're over 60c on the NB. Which even with the terrible stock cooling is hard to hit. I'm still using it, but I have a big sidepanel fan blowing over it, so it's not to bad temp wise. Really you want to keep it sub 50 though.
